FEL has gradually declined to rise up - ideas before I call the dealer?

Ok.. we're a little closer. A friend did truck hydraulics for 15yrs said it appears to be a problem at a something like a 'diverter valve' (made up name) under the seat. The pump has plenty of pressure.. the joy stick seems OK.. this valve under the seat seems the suspect. Any chance one of you have pages from a service manual that would discuss this item?

My first step would be to see if your friend could bring over a 3000 PSI gauge which you can connect to the quick connects and see what pressure you have when you try to lift the loader. That will circumvent quite a bit of troubleshooting right there.

Edit: I dont know that your tractor has a "diverter valve" as it is not that old.

Thanks Aaron.. Hank says there's some sort of splitter or middle valve under the seat that shunts pressure to the joy stick... The rear accessory lift (for plow, etc.) has plenty of strength. I'll run over and tell him about gauge.

Thats not how they are usually setup on a "modern" (post 1980ish) tractor. Usually the flow goes as follows: Pump > Steering divider > Loader valve > 3 point valve > Tank
As such, if you have good flow/pressure at the 3 point, the problem is probably in the loader valve itself or in the lift cylinders.

Not to be contrary, but this tractor has a valve under the seat. It splits the pressure between the rear lift and the joy stick. (I gather in the old days there was an either/or valve)

It further has a white knob sticking out the sheet metal beneath the seat that turns R/L and is marked Fast/Slow. If adjusted to max-Slow, the bucket comes up a little - slowly. Hank proofed the cylinders by checking to see if the 'rotate bucket' positions on the joy stick would function - No. It must be that valve under the seat.

Anybody know if there is any service that can be performed? ..or have the dwg. for it. Thanks.

That valve (the one with the white knob) is unrelated. That is used to regulate the drop speed of the 3 point hitch.

If you go to John Deere - Parts Catalog and enter 1070 in the "model" field, it will let you see exploded parts diagrams for the entire tractor.

Im still going to say, if your tilt is working fine then it is going to be in your lift cylinders. Easy to check with air, just undue them and blow air into one side and see if you get any blow by. Check one cylinder at a time, and this may save you a lot of looking.

OK! ...Hank found it. It was in that Rock Stop Valve.

It appears there is an accessory port on this valve ..for backhoe, belly mower?? The valve controls the rate of fall for items attached to the lifting arm for the mower, plow, etc. It also routes fluid to the Joy Stick .. and other stuff that may be connected to the tractor.

There is a large, pipe thread plug to plug this accessory port on the side of the valve..and a second similar to the one in this picture within the valve body. Hank could see there were internal threads, but not see anything?! He fished with a magnet and found a screw plug that fit those threads - put it back. It's about 6" within the valve body.

Once in place, the FEL works like a charm.. as do the lift arms. Problem solved. I appreciate the willingness of all of you to help. I hope someday someone Googles this and finds out that they do not have to spend large dollars to solve small problems. Cheers.
