Can anyone provide some insight on the following issue:

1) With the tractor ideling for a hour the FEL hydraulic control box gets hot (the fluid is getting very hot)

2) after 1.5 hours ideling, one of the lines that screws into the fel hydralic control box started leaking (pretty big leak)

3) Im assuming a bad seal as all the connections are tight

Could the hot temp of the hydralic fluid be causing this? Is it normal for the fel hydralic control to get hot while ideling and with no activity on the FEL controls?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well, the restriction of the line size and valves to the flow of fluid causes heat in itself even when not using the hydraulics. So, yes they will warm up a bit and even more so when used.
When you say "hot" I am guessing that you mean unusually hot. This could be a restriction in a line, valve, from dirt or debris or a kinked line to mention a few.
Does the pump make any unusual noises? Do you experience any problems with the FEL or 3PT? Is hydraulic fluid foaming?

Harry,

Do you know where the dipstick to check hydraulic fluid is on the 284? I wonder if the fluid could be low and that's why it is heating up?

I do not hear any noises from the pump and the fel contriols seem to work great.

The control box gets hot after an hour of ideling but not hot enough to burn your hand, just uncomfortable to the touch?

If you recall, I had a problem with metal shavings in the BH and I am wondering if this could be the case with the FEL - and as a result it's heating up the hydraulic fluid?

Thanks again...

The hydrulic oil fill/check point is behind your seat on the 200 series Jinma. It should be painted red. The plug should have a dipstick. Have you changed the factory fluids????? They use some thick nasty stuff in my opine. May want to consider that. Does your backhoe have its own pump?
I think I remember your problem and if thats the case with its own pump & resevoir they would be completely different systems. Some however tie into the tractor hydraulics for the backhoe but not advised on the Jinma by many.
I do know hydraulic oil can get quite hot when using it, 200 degrees plus some, easily. So when you say hot it hard to really say without knowing how hot. The human skin can't handle 120 degree water without scalding so I think you know what I mean.
