FEL mounted plows?

   / FEL mounted plows? #21
I have a Yanmar sx3100. My dealer is welding a QA bracket to a 7' western suburbanite poly truck plow for me. I hope it works good this winter and isn't to big for my tractor when we get a big storm. I will have a 6 way blade! My dealer said they do it a lot and have never had any loader arm problems.

Hello everyone my first post here and it is something started working on 2 weeks ago, I have a Yanmar 186D with a FEL and after trying to do a little yard plowing last winter, decided to get a plow. Found a 6 foot Meyers blade for 200 and in the process of fabricating the hitch up in the bucket. I am basically copying the way i have seen it done in the past. Any ideas or guidance would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I would keep the plow as close to the tractor as possible. I would remove the bucket and put the plow in place of it. I would build it like this plow. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/snow-removal/218030-meyer-plow-mating-jd-300cx-2.html By using the chain like when it was mounted on a truck, it keeps the weight of the loader on the tractor. With this setup you get full advantage of 4WD and it will not dig in bad as this style that you use the float position in the loader.

If you have a properly designed, and built FEL plow unit, damage is only a big concern if you hit something that does not move, and float mechanism and springs cannot absorb it. The rule is the same as it is if it is a conventionally mounted plow.

By making sure you know the area your plowing well, removing or marking your obstacles, and being careful not to rush through the job, you can avoid having any issues.

With a compact tractor, I too recommend against attaching the plow to the bucket.

A FEL plow also has some advantages over a conventional one. Such as being able to top snow piles when they get too high.

My plan is for plowing just the grassy area around my wood pile and then a path to the house (200-250 foot long path) to bring in fire wood. Usually bring in the wood once a week, do not want too much in the basement. At my age and working alone taking the bucket off and on to put the plow back on can be a pain in the back.
In the past have done it with a snow thrower, but now with the tractor thought would play a little.

I've been running a 9' blade on my L5740 with no issues on the tractor.

I did the exact same project a few years back. It was very rewarding and you can look it up under my TBN name. However, I have to give credit to Paul Shorts (TBN name 4shorts) for showing me how to do it! You should look up his project as well! Hope this helps. BTW - I now have 2 snow seasons with the snow plow conversion with zero issues. Make sure you mount it as close to the FEL arms as possible and make sure you have trip springs and that the hinges are not rusted stuck.

I have a Curtis 6.5' power angle plow on the FEL. Have Had it for 5 years on my 24hp. No issues at all with FEL. Personally, I think I put a lot more stress on the FEL when I use the grapple for building stone walls.

Thanks for the info Kubota Tee, I will look them up. Yes there were 3 springs on the plow but think will only put back 2 of them and yes it does fall forward, have it all apart in my shop fixing a few welds.

At my age and working alone taking the bucket off and on to put the plow back on can be a pain in the back.

It doesn't have to be. I have 4 caster dollies that the plow, and bucket sit on.

I can swap them in a few minutes without any real physical effort.
