OK - dumb question of the month candidate... and I am embarrased to ask. How do I take the 463 FEL off of my L4200?

I am not asking how to disconnect it - the pins and hose parts are obvious. What I can't figure out is how to support the physical structure once it is free from the tractor mounts. My FEL doesn't have those little legs on it like all of the new ones that allows it to stand up by itself when you back away. (Maybe I should make a pair...)

I've just examined it visually so far, but it seems that the FEL assy would immediately fall back into the machine as soon as the thing is free from rearmost the tractor mounts, not to mention getting the assy free from those mounts in the first place. I am also confused at the prospect getting the FEL back into place once it is off and laying on the ground.

I'm evidently missing something basic, so if someone could please give me a rough procedure on how to remove and re-attach an FEL, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks - Jay

PS - next month I'm going to ask about getting the BH off /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

A picture is worth many words.

You should have a set of arms under loader arms that need to be lowered and pinned in place.

Jay,

I'm not familiar with your loader but Ron attached a picture of the new style support arms that are always attached to the FEL and simply swing down into position when you need them. If you don't have this style, which I think you stated in your post then the older style had arms that you had to attack to the loader. I think they were normally stored someplace on the FEL but had to be installed to be used.

Good Luck,
Kevin

I remember something about the arms from a past thread. But search is not working. May be able to use search later to find information.

OK, I will offer a dumb suggestion. Try downloading the parts manual for the loader from http://tractorsmart.com/enter.htm (click on manuals and go from there), the part numbers for the storage arms should be shown in the parts manual.

I looked at an L2900 being auctioned privately and it had the supports stored in little clips across or along the two arms above the bucket. The length was about the same as the space between the arms. You should be able to make some from steel stock available at TSC or similar places. I think there are little stubs of pipe or something similar that they seat in on the arms. I didn't look real close since the tractor was too big for my needs.

I don't have the arms - I did notice a clip along the side of the loader frame, however. I guess that's where the supports were supposed to go - evidently they didn't make it across the last 10 years.

I know where the support arms should go - I've seen them on the newer loaders. My loader didn't have any, so I thought there might be some other way that was done back in the day...

Good suggestion about the manual - if I can find a decent picture, I can make the parts easily.

thanks - Jay
