FEL Roadscrape

I used my FEL for smoothing the driveway once and made it somewhat better but wondered if I should be investing in a boxscrape or with a little more practice, I can do a good job using the FEL? The tractor is at the dealer right now getting a MMM installed so it could be awhile before another attachment can be added.

In my experience (maintaining 1300 ft of gravel driveway/road for the last 3 years) a box scraper blows away what you can do with just the loader. For one, you can tilt one edge of the box lower to put a crown on the road. This is tough to do with a loader. Also, once you get the hang of it, it's easy to "erase" potholes, momve and level the gravel and generally get a nice smooth finish with a box scraper.

Note: it does take some practice to get good with the box scraper, and it can be frustrating until you do.

One recommendation: if you have a lot of driveway to maintain, or otherwise anticipate a lot of use out of your box scraper, hydraulic top link and tilt cylinders ("Top 'N TIlt" or "TNT") are a great addition. If you won't be using it that heavily, the TNT is probably not worth the expense (though I have ended up using the hydraulic toplink quite a bit when brush hogging).

I have about 1/4 mi. of driveway to maintain. I have used both the FEL and boxblade. Although both have done the job, I found that a landscape rake with guide wheels does the best job.
