I have never own a tractor with a FEL and I am in the progress of researching the purchase of a new tractor with FEL next year.

I have noticed that most of the loaders (Case, Kubota and New Holland) have bucket roll back angles of 25 to 40 degrees. On another tractor, a Massey 1455 only has a roll back angle of 14 degrees.

How important is the bucket roll back angle? Does this angle have any determining factor in how full you can get the bucket?

Thanks,

froggy

froggy,

See this discussion from earlier this month. Bottom line, I think it does matter. How much it matters depends on what you'll be doing most of the time.

Bill,

Thanks, for the thread. I just missed it somehow. I kind of thought the greater the angle the better, but needed to see what others thought.

Froggy,

I didn't see the previous thread but I have to disagree with the consensus there.

I have an old Kubota B6100. The roll back on the loader is very small (probably 20 degrees max). I find that when I drive into a pile of material with the bucket on the ground and level, I cannot roll it back enough to fill the bucket. The only way to fill the bucket is with a combination of roll back, lift and driving forward. My tractor is a manual transmission and the SCV for the FELL is a two-handle control which does not operate roll and lift at the same time - so you can imagine the hand/foot/eye dance I need to go thru when doing FEL work.

If the only negative of lots of roll back is the danger of dumping the load out the back when the bucket is lifted, I'd trade the need to be careful for a little less "Dances with FEL" ! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I second Bill's comment. My loader has less than 20 degree. I have to do the loader dance to get a full bucket of loose material. A little easier since I've got HST & a single lever FEL.

The other problem with insufficient roll back occurs when you ar shovelling material into the bucket. Let's say you are cleaning up small stone piles after raking an area. You need to raise the bucket to be able to take advantage of the capacity. This means lifting the shovel higher /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks for all the information. Based this data, the Massey is being eliminated from further consideration.
