So, to finish out this odyssey: In Nov, I used the FEL for about 15 minutes after fixing, and it jammed AGAIN. Since my work was done for the time being, I just left it. Finally needed the FEL again, so took the valve apart for the 3rd time. The little cup thing seems to jam itself tight against the plate--the bearings don't move even though there's plenty of grease and no rust. So fixed it, reinstalled, worked fine for about 15 minutes. On a 'lift' it gives a bit of a click once, thought that was a bit weird, and on the next lift, JAM. The whole thing is totally jammed again. The arm won't raise. I tell you, I about lost my religion.
So I do the hose swap thing again to get the bucket up (Harry in KY's advice), back out, take the whole valve apart for the FOURTH time , and this time, I take Tx Jim's advice and remove the 4 small, 1 large bearings, and the spring. Replace the cup, screw everything back together.
And the FEL's been working now no problem. No, it won't go into float. But I don't really use float too much, and I can just manage it. Tx Jim, I'm not noticing that I'm having to bring it back to neutral. I've got a lot of mud scraping to do.
