Any more info from the dealer who's tearing the engine down? They actually might not spend any time tearing it down, and just replace the whole thing to save labor costs. Then ship the blow engine back to the factory for inspection and anaysis.

I sure wouldn't, if it was my dealership. Beside simple curiosity about the failure mode, there is no incentive to spend time paying your technician to disassemble it. Nothing reusable inside that deceased motor. But Massey might not even allow the dealer to tear it down.
No word yet, but I'll contact them later today.

I think they will have to at least remove the oil pan to look at the debris and try to find a cause. Might send out the oil for analysis too. They will have to determine a cause to see if it is covered by warranty or not.

The only way I could see them denying a claim, is if they found no oil in it!

Otherwise ... It's not "operator/owner" error, but they built a faulty engine that acquired an unauthorized premature disassembly!

I had a gearbox come apart on my batwing that was replaced under warrantee. The question that I was asked over and over again was if there was any oil in it. Fortunately, I took a picture of it right after it happened and you can see all the oil that came out of it when it came apart.

That picture was all I needed to get the new gearbox replaced for free under warrantee.

Hopefully the same will happen with this engine and Massey.

Sorry to hear your Fergie’s laid up. Always tough when the old workhorse is down. What’s the issue—engine, hydraulics, or something electrical? A bit more detail might help folks here point you in the right direction. Hope it’s nothing too serious and she’s back out in the field soon.

I'd like to give you a nice update on this but we're not getting anywhere with this so far. The mechanic "started diagnosing" it last Tuesday and filed a claim with "the warranty people" but has not removed the engine. The service lady thinks he may have "poked a camera in it" but isn't sure.

may have poked camera in to take pic of rod ends to send to warranty dept. prob can't touch it much until they get the go ahead.
