3-Point Hitch Fergy TE 20

Hi, i have an old grey Fergy TE 20 and have just fitted a 48" slasher. I can't raise the linkage unless the PTO is running. Is this correct, or is there another adjustment which operates the lift without the PTO running?

As I recall the TE20 and the Ford 9N, 2N and 8N were almost identical. The hydraulic pump runs off of the PTO, so you do have to have the PTO engaged to operate the three point hitch. Running a brush hog or slasher with these tractors is a bit tricky because of this. I hope that you have also have an over running clutch installed on the PTO shaft, as things can get really exiting really fast without one. There is a lot of inertia in a spinning hog and without an over running clutch it will be transferred to the rear tires when you push the main clutch in to try and stop!

Thanks for your reply. Yes it's going to be a bit of a challenge, but I have set a couple of stops on the hitch control and they seem to be keeping things under control.

The TE-'s and TO-'s requite the pto shaft to be engaged to drive the pump. They also do not have position control. There are ways to get pseudo- position control for a rotary cutter ( go to yesterdays tractors web site) or you can purchase a Fergy Positioner in OZ or a Zane Thang in the US to get position control. You can also make or buy positioner chains to hold position of the cutter.

You should also have an overrunning clutch (ORC) on the pto when you have it connected to anything device with a high rotational inertia. Disconnecting the main clutch will still allow the rotating implement to drive the rear wheels and could allow you to hit an obstacle or drive into a ditch after depressing the clutch pedal and anticipating that the tractor will stop.
