I have both a Toro 52" deck 23 HP Kohler gas motor ZTR and a Dixie Chopper 35HP diesel with 74" deck ZTR. The dixie is way more mower--bigger, heavier, stronger. The diesel motor NEVER bogs. It can cut foot high grass covered in leaves in the fall and still discharge the clippings 10-20 feet. It will lose some RPMs, but it never quits. I have cut grass that would have stopped a gas mower in its tracks.
In fact, I used it to blow leaves in the fall when my 3 pt. hitch Goossen blower for my tractor was acting. It did just as nice a job, and was probably quicker given the added maneuverability.
I originally bought the Dixie with diesel because I own a Kubota RTV 900 and New Holland TC33D, and wanted to buy only one fuel. I plan to sell the Toro in the future. I do not regret at all buying the diesel Dixie and paying the extra for the diesel. It is simply more mower.
