1. The English language continues to be subject to criminal abuse on TBN. Spelling and punctuation errors, homophone abuse, noun and verb confusion (advice versus advise, effect versus affect, etc.), and flouting of the rules of subject and verb agreement are examples of this abuse. The abuse is so rampant that the Grammar Police have declared TBN unsafe for patrol.

This one has always scared me. Does that make me homophonebic?

My Festivus grievance is guys on TBN that post things that they think are funny, but they really aren't. Glad I don't fall into that category.

My grievance would be the double posts.

I dont worry too much about spelling and grammar, as long as I can understand and read the response fluently. I often reply from my smart phone, which thinks its smarter than me and likes to insert its own words in place of mine.

the ones that are bad are the ones you just cannot understand.

Recurring problem on TBN--1000+ word paragraphs with minimal or defective punctuation and at times a crowd of misspellings. The poster may have interesting and/or important things to say, but when I encounter these abominations, I just move on. No sense in straining my eyes on that stuff.

While there are lots'O grammatical and spelling issues here, this isn't exactly an English literature site and mental boundaries need to be expanded while those with technical expertise in the tractor area attempt to explain things to someone that may have a different skill set. I'm sure if I pinned an English prof to the ground I could make him cry like a little girl by refuting his tractor knowledge and technical errors.

On the whole, run-on paragraphs aside, this is an excellent site of generally polite people sharing what they have learned the hard way. So I look the other way and worry about what's for lunch instead. I am unhappy with the double post thing and, uhh, I'm sure there must be something else but I can't think of it. Oh yeah, the spell check that replaces my "your" with "you're", or the other way around and makes me sound like a slack jawed yokel when I'm trying not to let that out. Oh,well.

i had a stroke a year and half ago. i usually don't worry aboutt capital letters and misspelled words because i figure that 99% of the people on here are smart enough to figure it out the first time reading any post. if you are so concerned about the PROPER english, then you aren't doing.the right thing. you should be spending your time volunteering in the schools to help the ones that need help with their english. i used to be able to type with both hands but now have to use the hunt and pec method so plea]se be gracious and overlook others mistakes.

Yes but then those that think themselves better than the rest would not be able to mentally lift themselves up over the rest of the rabble to a place of supposed superiority and pretend that they are something special. The elitist mentality of the world tend to look down on those that do not fit into their little elite group and view the rest as inferior and in a need of being taken care of for their own good. You don't do this right you don't do that right. You don't spell, punctuate, etc. right and need to be taken care or corrected. TBN is not a technical writing paper, a thesis, a published document for peer review, nor is it anything but a social communication web site for information.

While it is often easy to miss sarcasm in the forum there are posters that are known for trying to play the game that they are better than others. I guarantee that nearly everyone on the forum is better in some way than someone else and conversely someone is always better than you are, so get over it; or go back to only being with your own kind and leave the rest alone.:):D:p

While I don't disagree with the OP point it is not necessary to point out everyone's foibles. You would not do it to your spouse and survive and keep a marriage healthy it is not necessary to do it here either. Get over it.:D

Having said that people should read the posts where the OP put their information before you start to write your response. An example, if they said they checked the battery cables in their OP then don't say in post #5 to check the battery cables. RTFQ or more precisely RTFP.
