Fiberglass truck caps Leer & ARE ??

I've have an ARE on my 2003 Chevy 2500 since new.......never had a problem with leaks or durability. Paint still looks new. I did replace the gas props for the back window a few years back.....the old ones just wore out. ARE makes a good cover.

I ordered my new 2016 dodge 2500 last week.I am looking at the Leer XL100 & ARE Z series fiberglass caps.Is one better than the other?The price for the Leer is $1800 the ARE is $2200.Thoughts good bad or ugly.Thanks..

Avoid Leer like the plague!

ARE are far superior to Leer. I had a Leer once and got so fed up with it I drove to the city dump, unbolted it and threw it in the trash! Drove home with a smile. 1400 bucks and I used it for about 2 years. That tells you how mad I was.

The dealer bought my $1700 Leer top back from me for $700. I was glad to be rid of it! What a piece of junk.

I have had both. But I just purchased an F250 and put a Leer on the back. Lined the inside with "BedRug" first time for that but I like it. Had the Leer outfitted with fishing rod holders and a gun safe.

I had a Leer 100XL on my last truck (2011 F150)that I owned for 4.5yrs. The lock cylinder was a POS and was replaced once and was about to need it again when I sold the truck. The front glass had a gasket issue that I just fixed myself. The trim on the back glass was flimsy and felt like it was also going to break...and I believe did end up cracking in one spot. The headliner was starting to fall in spots and finally the rear brake light had about half the LEDs go out in it but I never replaced that because everybody else I knew had the same issue as did the replacement lights. So if I were to buy another I would take a serious look at ARE...
