I have had an A.R.E. cap on my 2005 Tundra for 11 years now and have been very pleased with my purchase. I don't know whether a fold-down front window is standard or optional on the models you are considering, but it is worth springing for.

Bird initiated a thread a few months back in which he requested input on cap brands. I haven't been able to locate that thread, but I don't recall any negative comments about A.R.E. I seem to recall that there was a negative comment about Leer, but I can't remember the reason.

BTW, congratulations on your new truck.

Steve

I found Bird's thread -- http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/front-porch/348655-where-do-i-get-pickup.html.

I have had both Leer and ARE caps. While neither are perfect, the ARE is MUCH superior to the Leer. I would not consider Leer products after my experience. The ARE was much higher quality and was much better thought out. The Leer had issues from day one. I would be sure to get screened windows. These allow you to get some venting in the summer.

I am not trying to be smart but why a cap? Never understood them. Why not a Suburban, Expedition, or similar? Seem to make sence to me.

Cause your not putting crap on carpet....Don't have a cap now but that's why I've done it in the past...Still a bed, just much more room.

I guess its a old fart thing.Don,t need a fancy $60,000-$70,000 SUV just a pickup truck with a cap and spray in bed liner verses carpet.

I have had two trucks with caps. I sometimes wondered why I had not purchased an SUV until I had to haul something messy or smelly. Also "in theory" you can pull the cap off if you need to haul something that fit under the cap. Of course that is why you have utility trailer.

ARE are far superior to Leer. I had a Leer once and got so fed up with it I drove to the city dump, unbolted it and threw it in the trash! Drove home with a smile.

1400 bucks and I used it for about 2 years. That tells you how mad I was.
