Field fence pain

This is what I've been putting in lately. The old barb and woven wire was 40+ years old, so I guess you can say it did it's job, but boy I was glad to get it ripped out.
My new fence is 5 strands of electrified high tensile with 5 inch creosote line posts, and 6 inch posts in the double corners. They don't mess with it.

Beautiful country and nice looking fence. ^^^^^^^^^^^

Depending on the charger, you many have to deal with the grass along the fenceline.

It is amazing how fast cows (or other animals) learn to stay away from a one strand electrified fence. My dogs wont go near the white nylon type after getting into it one time only. It doesn't even have to be energized to keep them away. Cows will test it though, but on all but the most stubborn bull will stay behind one little strand, the more visible the better. My brother in law has miles of the stuff to section off his pasture to prevent overgrazing and it works fine. I put up some to keep my german shepherd pup from killing my chickens and it works fine for that too. The chickens know that they are safe on the back side of the fence and head there when the dogs are out.

Electric fence is much more humane to animals than getting cut with barbed wire. I have accidently touched it a few times and while it will jolt you, no damage is done. It is a heck of a lot cheaper also than net wire or 5 strands of barbed wire.
