I appreciate the time and the info. I do most of my cuts with diamond blades, i have one on an angle grinder and the other on an old circ saw. I also have a wet saw for tile. I have a lot of stone tools and use an estwing most of the time to shape to size, but have the larger hammers when push comes to smash. When i was working summers with a landscaper we used the big wet saws to cut paverstones etc.
Is a lot of the stone work you do like bigger riverstone, more rounded?

I've used some river rock but most is granite. Our place is covered with granite of random shape and size. I like to stick an odd piece of foreign stone here and there to add interest. I seldom cut stone prefering to set it as gathered. I do use diamond blades to make cuts when I need to. Stone is forever!

Good to see Valley jump in with his experience. If you have any kind of wood siding, I would use a flashing though. PA is more humid than CA, and probably wetter in general.

If the coped mortar is close enough to the bottom edge of the siding to look good, it could be close enough for the wood to wick moisture out of the mortar. That would be asking for dry rot, green slime, etc.. Don't let that happen.

I would put the flashing under the siding as Valley said, then extend it down the block wall surface about 1 1/2" before turning it out over the mortar a ways. This will allow rain, dew, snowmelt to drip free of the bottom edge of the siding and give some space for good air flow.

My guess is that if you start digging you will soon find the edge of the footing that your existing block wall rests on.
Then what ?
Will you step out from that, go down and pour beside it ?
Pour over it ?
Both, in a step pattern ?
Just use it as a ledge to start your outer wall on ?

Then there is the whole question of a basement wall that juts out from the house's siding.
You will need some sort of a cap angled out to deflect water.
Not sure of the details on how to do this, but flashing tucked under the bottom of the siding and run out.... somewhere/somehow ???

Forgeblast, Your roof overhangs the block and the stone job you are planning right?

Yes the roof overhangs everything, I think i will still go with z strips since i can slide them under the t111, ill try to post a pic of the house tommorrow.

house005.jpg

this is the front of our house, shows the t111 and block wall, also shows the paverstone walkway and some landscaping. the rain gutter you can see (downspout) ended at the t111, so now it is run correctly.

house001.jpg

shows the back of our house, the a frame roof and small mud room addition that we have. thats where our woodstove is.

Looks nice! Whole lot more than an Aframe. Your roof looks maybe 12 /12 pitch.
