Kubota B7800
I have 56 hours on my B7800 and am doing the fifty hour service. I have changed the engine oil and filter but now I have a couple questions I hope somone can help me with.

1) My dealer (who carries Kubota and Deere) gave me Deere Hy-Gard Transmission and Hydraulic OIL to put in. Will this be a acceptable substitute for UGT or Super UGT? I saw on another post recently that using transmission oil (rather than fluid) can hurt the brakes if they are wet brakes but when I called my dealer they said that that is what they use in all the tractors they service and will work for me. Am I ok with it? The local Carquest sells a universal transmission fluid that says it works for Kubota tractors that I could pick up if the Deere stuff isn't right.

2) Do I replace both the transmission fluid filter and the hydraulic filter during the fifty hour service? The manual is pretty vague about when to change each of the filters. Do you always just change them both when changing the transmission fluid filer? I guess I could just change them both since I bought a replacement for each of them but thought I'd ask anyway.

3) Anything else I should do during the fifty hour service that is not mentioned in the manual? I am going to look at the air filter and replace it if necessary and do all of the normal checks and greasing but don't know if there is something else I should look at.

As you probably realize I am a tractor newbie - and an engine maintainance newbie in general for that matter. I have never even changed the oil in my car before but I figure I should probably figure all this out on my tractor so I don't have to haul it to the dealer everytime it needs to be serviced. Thanks for all the help, I look forward to hearing your guy's advice.

Seems that every multi tractor dealer uses something other than Kubota and it also seems that they all say that it is OK. If this were the case, then why would Kubota go to the trouble to make their own brand of oil to use in their tractors? Why don't all the tractor manufacturers just publish a "spec" that the oil must meet to be acceptable? Until these questions are answered by the tractor manufacturers, I suggest that you stick with the product that is OEM (original equipment manufacturer) for your tractor. My tractor came from the factory with Kubota Super UDT and that is all that I will use. It wouldn't be worth the hassle if there is a transmission problem and when the manufacturer gets the defective part back and denies the claim because you had used a oil that wasn't spec-ed for the tractor.

I'm sure the Deere, New Holland etc hydro oil is all fine in a Kubota. Those dealers are also responsible for the warranty repairs, so they don't want you to have issues they have to fix for free.

When it came to my transmission i used UDT. I almost went with a high quality product my oil distributor recommended but i had a gut feeling to stick with UDT.

I would replace the filters just to make sure all if any metal particles were removed with the filter. really a cheap precaution.
If it's 4wd change the front end oil. i used mystik jt 7 i believe. (without going out and making sure)

The 50 hour service is just to insure that any items that might have been left, ie metal,is removed to prevent any damage long term.

Taking care of a tractor or a vehicle can give you much satisfaction. i would highly recommend you buy a more indepth manual and read it before diving in. sometimes folks do more damage than good just because they didnt take the time to learn how.
And that goes for novices and experts.

I changed all of my filters at my 50 hour service. You never know what might be circulating around in a new system.

Don't forget to clean the screens where the filters attach as well.

I also did my front axle fluid too. Don't remember if that was part of the 50 hour service or not. But did see some grungies in the fluid (i.e. metal particles)

I would strongly suggest that if doing your own maintenance you stay strictly with Super UGT. The hydo system on a Kubota is about $ 4,000 to repair if it fails and you don't want a warranty fight with Kubota on your hands if yours goes south. The Hydro system is one of the most expensive sub-systems on the tractor, not worth compromising it to save $ 20 on fluids.

Keep a dated copy of the receipt showing purchases of the consumables, use all Kubota parts, and your warranty should remain valid.

Replace all filters.

Check tire pressures (they lose air quickly) and hit all your grease fittings. Battery fluid level.

Not a difficult service, just be sure to have a large catch basin to drain the old Hydro fluid....a lot comes out!
