I have been a regular reader of the forum for some time, but a recent trip to my dealer prompted me to make my first post. I am buying a TC 24 soon and went to hash out the details with the dealer the other day. When he was drawing up the sales agreement, he added a $300 "UCC Filing Fee" charge into the price (I will be taking advantage of the low financing offered by NH). I guess my question is, is that fee legit or is that just an excuse for the dealership to tack on a few hundred extra bucks? Thanks for any insight anyone has on this.

Here, the first $200 of that fee is for NH because of the low interest. The rest was for document fees etc. At least thats what I was told.
So..........0% financing costs $200.

Just bought my TC33D and paid $116.50 for the 0% financing ($100 administrative fee,$4.00 filing fee and $12.50 UCC service fee) I guess it depends on the dealer on how much he wants to pad his deal. Overall, I felt that I was treated pretty well and got a super deal. Hope you enjoy your new tractor as much as I do.

Looks like tractor dealers are poking into the car dealers' bag of tricks, sorry to say. This same nonsense came up when I bought my truck in 2000. I asked the salesman about added charges and fees, making it clear I wasn't about to pay any. After the salesman assured me there weren't any, the F&I (finance and insurance) guy who handled the closing added a couple of hundred dollars in "fees."

I point blank told him that it wasn't a fee, but added markup. He admitted it was just that. I threatened to walk. The dealership backed down, and I got the truck for the originally negotiated price.

If this fee is a condition of finance, then it should be disclosed as such in the finance charges. I think that is the law, and that the APR should reflect it. Somebody else may be able to comment on that.

Filling out paperwork is part of the sales process, and it's part of the dealership's cost of doing business. That's covered in the price of the tractor--along with the profit.

Statutory fees that go to the government and fees that are paid by the dealer to outside entities for legitimate reasons, such as document recordation are one thing, the rest are added profit. Don't pay them.

Some of it is legitimate. For example, someone (either NH or the dealer) probably had to pay a fee to run your credit report, and there are legitimate filing expenses. I hate a "document preparation" fee, because that overhead expense should be lumped in with all other overhead expenses such as electricity and showroom maintenance.

With all that said, however, I paid it and paid, and paid. I didn't have a whole lot of choice - the next closest dealers are other locations of my dealer (they have 3 locations), and beyond that, I was looking at 150 miles or more. As I've said, however, my dealer has already made up a great deal of it in covering an item I bent under warranty, throwing in some stuff, and painting my first scratch (actually a gouge), and I expect them to continue to do so. I figure I'll come out ahead in the end, especially when I don't have to travel 150 miles to see my dealer...

My paperwork was as follows:

TC18 tractor............12,800.00 (more about this in a moment)
12LA loader...............2,000.00
Tax............................420.00
Official Fee...................10.00
UCC Filing Fee...............12.50
Administrative Fee........200.00
Physical Damage Ins.....293.04

Total.....................15,735.54

Included in the tractor price was a Rhino SE-4 4' rotary cutter (around $550 as I recall), a Sun Belt 4' box blade (around $425), and a hydraulic pallet hoist that attaches to the 3PH with a retail value of $987, but I could have gotten cheaper. The approximate prices for the attachments are what the dealer would charge if purchased individually. This was a package deal. The implements weren't shown on the financing papers, presumably to get the 0% fianancing on them, also. They were shown on a separate invoice (to prove the warranty dates, I presume), but at no additional cost.

Backing that stuff away from the tractor, it looks like I paid about 11,000 for the tractor alone, which seems high based on other prices here, and 2,000 for the 12LA loader, which seems low.

I hold my dealer's fingers to the fire - I remind them (with humor, but with steel in my voice) that I paid their price without question, and they should service my needs without question. So far, they have, not even counting things like throwing in an extra top link or some extra category I pins.

As I've seen in the last year or two I've been reading the forum, there is a wealth of knowledge and experience here. Thank you very much for your replies to my question. Might be time to have another chat with my friendly NH salesman and have him give me an itemized breakdown of this "fee" Thanks again.

there is no charge for 0% financing thru new holland. What they do charge for is the UCC filling charge depends on state you are from how much it is. New Holland also charges 12.50 to process this ucc filling. They also charge the dealer a 50.00 administration fee for porcessing the contract. so the total fees new holland charges out of the adminastration fees are 62.50 plus whaterever your states ucc filling charge is. Anything above this is what the dealer charges to cover his paper work fees or additional profit center for his dealership.

So, in my case, $10 was the state fee, $12.50 was NH's UCC fee, and $50 out of the $200 was NH's fee. The other $150 was my dealer.

Next question - in one of the threads I saw a quote for the physical damage insurance that was considerably less than mine. Does NH require this; do they have a standard carrier for it or does each dealer find his own; and what is a standard fee? I'm not going to try to get anything back from my dealer; I agreed to it fair and square; but I'd like to have a better idea of when I pass "GO" as I squeeze them a little for extras /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The pyhsical damage insurance that New Holland offers is based on the amount financed. The insurance is required if your tractor is financed thru New Holland Credit.. I am not sure what other financing companies would require. You have the option of getting this insurance thru your own insurance carrier you do not have to buy it from New Holland Credit. I have run into very few cases where your home owners insurance policy will not cover a compact tractor used on your own property. The dealer makes a small precentage of this insurance amount. I am not sure of the exact percentage because we do not sell much of it. I encourage my customers to check with there agent on there home owners policy because it usually is less money if there is any cost at all.
