from Garry's profile: Hours: Usually 4.5 for 18.

Garry, to think all this time I just knew you had rigged your tractor to only register 4.5 hours on the hour meter for every 18 actual hours you used it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. I would have never guessed you didn't actually own a tractor /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif!

Of course, then there's always people like Junkman. By reading his profile, you'd Never suspect that the guy had any kind of sense of humor, let alone one of the sharpest wits around! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

I honestly would not have known where you lived...if I had ever looked at the blurb beneath your name to see it, I had since forgotten. I would have guessed you lived in Florida and were a Gainesville-backer.

For the record, I decided to see what a filled-out profile looked like (yours) and discovered that you had indeed lived in Florida (or at least attended University of Florida)....wow, that was handy information. If hadn't found out where you graduated college from I sure couldn't answer a question to you about how to pull or calf or how to pour a concrete floor or how to bake a cake or how to....

Information in profiles is fantastic (I read yours and Buckles (? - whoever posted after you did). I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I read them...surely they will be on the NY Times bestselling profile-filled-out-list...

I'm just having some fun at your guys expense, and I suppose I really shouldn't since probably all you want to know what my conditions are should I ask various and sundry questions...shame on me....

Can I just let Junkman fill out my profile since he seems to the expert on rtimgray - then I don't even have the excuse of I'm too busy?

I doubt that there are any PETA people on this forum. They are usually the type of person who doesn't get his or her hands dirty. They are good at telling other people how to live their lives though /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif By force of law if necessary. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Sounds like anti-gunners too.

You must be easily entertained. I respect the fact that you rather be just known -- so to speak -- as a number rather than a name.

I think some basics like location and equipment one has should be an absolute minimum. I filled mine out the first time someone brought it to my attention when I was new and only wish there were more space allowed for certain things like hobbies/interests, etc., than is currently available.

I'd like to update my info but can't because I'd have to delete some of what I have there since the limit was reduced since I filled mine out. I can't even change my password now unless I trim that. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

As to someone tracking me down for some nefarious reason or stealing my identity, I can't say I'm really worried about that at all. I figure there are far better places to cull that kind of info than a TBN profile. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

rtimgray..... what is wrong with your adding this to your profile...

Our buddy Henro has a pretty good profile... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi, my name is Bill. I was born in Pgh. I live in Pgh now. I think I will die in Pgh. Pgh is a good place. My wife likes Pgh too. TBN is as good as Pgh. Life is good...space for bio is too small...

If I ever said, or gave the impression, that there is anything wrong with filling out one's profile, I did not mean to. Profiles are great...they're fantastic...everybody should do it....everybody else, I guess.

It's just that, as mentioned before, I never looked at anybody's profile and wondered why anybody would look at mine. It's really more or less a lack of interest on my part - like I said earlier, if somebody asks a question and doesn't give their complete information, tough nuggies. If they want a question answered, they should give all the information in the post (make it REAL easy for folks to find rather than nosing around in profiles). Heck, 80 percent of the questions brought up anymore have already been discussed, it seems like the asker is not willing to put in the effort to search the archives.

seems to me that there is no harm and actually much to be gained by filling out ones profile. they are not asking for your addres, SS# , phone # !!! just the basics. area u live in. acreage, etc. helps to ans a question. BUT TO EACH HIS OWN.

Please don't fill out your profile..... I already know enough about you and don't want to learn any more.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Great - now I'm gonna have to fill it out just to spite Junkman...but if I do, Frank wins....I've painted myself into a corner....

...guess it's time to apply a second coat.

Hambone - it really doesn't bother me if you don't want to know anything about me. I was wondering how much longer it would be before some other folks piled on.

I'm glad to see that you guys have kept alive the Tractorbynet tradition of wanting everybody to express their individuality - just as long as they do it the same way everybody else does.

The idea of not filling out a profile just because I don't want to may seem childish, but it is certainly no more childish than saying "If you won't fill out your profile I don't want to know any more about you" or "If you are an experience TBNer that hasn't filled out your profile, I'm not going to answer your question" - that's real mature.

Maybe my not filling out my profile does indeed tell you more about me that one that is filled out does; I enjoy reading and posting on this board, but for as long as I have been a member, I don't really have a lot of posts - that's because I usually only get involved in things that I feel I can realistically shed light on.

I'm glad that I found out this was a hot button for some folks, because, as mentioned earlier in this thread, I never thought twice about my (or anybody else's) profiles.

Does it bother anyone else when you go to post an response to a post and go to the profile to see if that will help in your reply, but there ain't no info.

Nope. Here's why...

You ever been on a bus and strike up a conversation with someone? Do they have on a t-shirt or nametag that says NAME, LOCATION, INTERESTS, etc...? Probably not, but you still talk to them anyway. As the conversation progresses, you find out a few things about them or you don't. You start to form an opinion of someone from the conversation, their body language, their tone of voice, and so on(you also decide if you want to continue talking to them or not). That's kind of the fun of it.

I have a tractor and it has a problem... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

What kind of problem?

Won't start. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

What kind of tractor is it?

A broken tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I meant what brand and model number. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Oh, I'm sorry. It is brand X and model 123. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And so on... it is good conversation.

As for my own profile, I hung around long enough that I felt comfortable filling it out. If someone wants to read it, OK. I rarely read other folks' profiles. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

"80 percent of the questions brought up anymore have already been discussed, it seems like the asker is not willing to put in the effort to search the archives."

Just because it's an old question doesn't mean there can't be a new answer. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You got it Gary.

I remember a couple of years ago answering welding and trailer questions and being somewhat of an authority with my limited knowledge and experience.

Now I get to be the one going to school.

And that ain't a bad thing. It's good to see the same old questions getting some really good answers.

Besides that, how we going to get to know the newbies without getting them into the conversation? And what better way to start a conversation than asking a question for the already been there done thats?
