Filling out PROFILES

Profiles can only give you any sense of value to the information being conveyed if one trusts that the profile is being truthful...

I'm not from Missouri (but no one would know since I don't fill out my profile), but I do subscribe to the Mark Twain theory of believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see. Free advice is worth every penny you pay for it...

Hi
Can’t argue with that

Maybe on some other types of websites, most people are untruthful, but I would care to bet that over 90% of the profile information for those TBN members that are nice enough to fill theirs out are true.

I will second that and anyone that has been here for a while will know that it is rare day that I ever agree with Gatorboy. Mark this day on your calender. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It could be that 100% of folks are truthful, or 100% are untruthful...the only truth is we will never know...just a natural cynic, I guess.

I do rate Tractorbynet.com as one of the best websites as far as alleged truthfulness and cooperation, but there is always a possibility of a bad apple in the barrel, so I tend to ere to the side of caution.

There's nothing wrong with adding it to my profile - I'm not trying to be secretive about my information. I doubt that any identity thieves will get enough information off of this forum to do any damage.

Fact is, I'm just too lazy to fill it out. Like I said earlier, I never look at other people's profiles, so I guess I never thought about anybody wanting to look at mine.

But your research left off the Ford tractors that the family owns/I use, the Yanmars/Kubotas/John Deeres/Belarus/Massys that I have owned and used, all of the sundry attachments, all of the other vehicles (trucks and other off road machines), the other structures (barns, root cellars, tree houses) that I've built, the other professions that I've had, raising chickens, donkeys, bison, sheep, and lots of other miscellaneous information that is pretty much useless unless it is in the proper context. I.E. if someone says that are looking to build a root cellar, then I would post my experience to qualify any type of input I would have. I figure rather than post all of that boring pointless information for everyone to be bored with, I'll pull it out of the closet one piece at a time.

Of course, with the time I've spent writing posts on this thread, I could have filled out my forum....

but now I'm just gonna be contrary about it.

I was all prepared to write this same statement until you pointed it out in your own post. So, you mean you don't know I live in Bel Air, MD? I must applaud you for being able to read posts and not even drift your eyes over to see our information in the left column. This information is from OUR PROFILES, and as you have claimed, you don't read, nor even thought about reading someone else's profile information. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I must say that I filled out my profile on day one and I often look at other members profiles. If I am reading a post from someone, I often think about where they are from and what equipment they have. One look at their profile and I have my answers (unless they didn't provide info, and then I am just disappointed /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ).

I also take a look at someone's profile for the reasons that have been stated. But I also feel that sometimes, you can get a feeling for characteristics of the person by the way their profile is filled out. I hope, for example, that when people view my profile, they not only will realize that I don't have my tractor yet /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif, but that I've got a pretty good sense of humor. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Of course, then there's always people like Junkman. By reading his profile, you'd Never suspect that the guy had any kind of sense of humor, let alone one of the sharpest wits around! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
