I don't label or note any servive hours except on my truck. The cars have the oil etc. changed - Things checked at 5000 kil. intervals that conincide with the exact interval as shown by the odometer. This way its simple and I can easily tell when the service is due. EG: 40,000--- 45,000---50,000

The tractor has oil changed on the same principle using the hour meter.

It works for me so it's got to be simple.

Henro:

I am going to send you one of my old filters so you can appreciate the beautiful writing I've put on it with my Markall Paint pen. I'll put it in a plastic bag so it won't leak in the box. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

This one is my low pressure hydraulic filter. This stuff is permanent. My 3500 psi hot pressure washer doesn't faze it.

I purchased a roll of yellow, 3M electrical tape and write maintenance information on it with a black Sharpie marker. It is easy to see and sticks well if you clean the area with naphtha or alcohol first. Cut strips to desired length. Pressure washing would probably remove the tape.

I use a fine sharpie But I keep a record under the hood.
Example
25 3-00 o/f =25 hours March 2000 oil and filter
56 4-00 o/f t/f = o/f (oil and filter)
75 6-00 o/f
102 8-00 o/f = t/f ( transmission fluid and filter)

I also keep a record in a binder with my manuals, but the record under the hood is seen every day I use the machine.I always check the oil before starting. I don't list when it is greased because that is either every time or every other time I use the tractor for any substantial digging.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. My Markall pens arrived yesterday from Enco. So, I soon will be marking the filters I changed last weekend.

An intersting aside was the pens arrived in an 8" square box. I thought it was kind of large container for just a few pens. When I opened the box, the pens were in a resealable plastic bag, surrounded by packing 'peanuts', along with the invoice. Also in the box was a twice-folded document which I initially thought was an Enco catalog since it's not unusual for mail order places to include their current catalog with an order. Well, it wasn't a catalog.

It was two 10 page documents warning me about the various chemicals in the pens, proper disposal methods for the pens, etc. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
