Filtering diesel fuel from cans

I'm still filling 5 gal cans to fuel my tractor (ugh.) When pouring fuel yesterday, I noticed that one or more small contaminants also went in with the new fuel. Agghh. What sort of filter is recommended when fueling from a 5 gallon can into a tractor diesel tank?

I routinely use a "Mr Funnel".....It was $30 bucks in the size that flows 5 gallons per minute. It is suppose to remove water, dirt and debris and is unaffected by the "Power Service" additive....according to the manufacturer.

The Mr Funnel has to be dead level. If your filler is at an angle or theres stuff around the filler so the funnel is at an angle, it won't filter as fast and it will retain fuel in the unfiltered side, making a mess when you remove the funnel from the tank. I got one to use on my Branson which has the fuel tank filler by the step and it doesn't fit.

I hear you, i am thinking of getting away from cans, using an old truck fuel tank. Then I can pump it and filter it before it goes in. Also, looking at replacing my 5 gal cans and I can't stand the new alternatives.

I use my Mr. Funnel when fueling my tractors, although it has the drawbacks pointed out above. Unfortunately, I can't position it to work when fueling my RTV. The yellow six-gallon cans I use have built-in screens that catch debris, but are of no use in filtering out any water.

+ 1 on the Mr funnel. You can buy smaller diesel cans as well. I have stacks of red ones , so I was cheep and painted 2 of them yellow so it is easier for the Mrs. to handle.
