NH tc35a
Hello TBNers,
Are there any other non NH alternatives to the various filter on my tc35a? The cost of these things are astronomical here. Each item has a shipping surcharge added to it as if the dealer had to order each one separately from the warehouse. Is there a Wix filter that will fit the tc35a without getting caught up in the bolt head? How about fuel, air, and hydraulic filters.

Best regards,
Steve

Alot of people use napa. They seem to be able to cross most of the filters. Have you tried Messicks. They are NH and if you are going to pay shipping, why not have the filters shipped to your door.

I can't make excuses for the retail prices of NH parts. But if your dealer doesn't offer to order parts for you on his weekly stock order, his parts department is either stupid or deliberately screwing you. Stock ordered parts can take up to a week to arrive, but there is no freight charge to the dealer's location. He really has no excuse for not stocking fuel, engine oil, hydrostatic and hydraulic filters for your tractor. They all fit literally dozens of models. Air filters are a little more model specific.

From reading past posts (and first hand experience) it seems the only filter that is difficult to find aftermarket (wix/napa gold/fleetguard etc) are the hydraulic/transmission filters..

Air and oil filters are easily cross matched to another filter mfg - Wix (which makes the napa gold) and fleetguard both have nice websites and are good filters. BUT even with the donaldson filter number from the old filter and the John Deere number filter number from the owners manual, I could not find a hydraulic/transmission filter for my JD compact anyplace but the dealer

The mainline aftermarket mfgs all make good elements. Look for WIX filters, WIX oil filters, WIX air filters, WIX fuel filters, WIX Heavy Duty Oil Filters (wix filters), NAPA Filters (napa), Baldwin Filters Heavy Duty Filtration Products | Lube Filters, Air Filters, Fuel Filters, Hydraulic Filters, Coolant Filters, Cabin Air Filters and Automotive Filters (baldwin filters), and Cummins Filtration

Some sites may list where you can buy them. In our area we have a great baldwin dealer that seems to have everything I need.

I just changed the oil, hydraulic and fuel filters on my TC35A with the last fluids change. Wix has offsets to all of the standard NH filters. The oil filter was about the same size and the fuel filter was a good match. I am still wondering about the hydraulic filter. The Wix filter was smaller than the NH filter that came with the tractor. It seems that the FEL does not work as quick now and I am wondering if the smaller filter has a slower fluid transfer rate (thus slower hydraulics). It might also be the fact that it has been in the teens, 20s and 30s the last few times I used my TC35A.

I did like the quality of the Wix filters and they were easier to find and about 1/2 the price. I am going to keep an eye on that hydraulic filter as the weather warms up.

I should mention that there are 2 different categories of filters for the TC35A on the NAPA/Wix website. The oil filter changes depending on the engine. My tractor has the Shiba..xyz..pdg something-or-other engine.

After reading your post I'm going to stick with the NH filters. The few dollars I save by going to an "other brand" is not worth the piece of mind. I only need to change my oil filter 1-2 times per year as I only put 65-100 hrs per year on my TC45A.

I'll just take the wife out one less time per year for dinner....

.

I put a new overpriced  NH Hydraulic filter on my 1620 (ordered the complete NH set from the guy on EBAY) in the fall and everything was fine. Now that winter is here and the outside temp it in the 20's, the hydraulics seem to move sloooooooowwwwwerrrrrr. If I work the tractor pretty hard for about an hour it moves at the normal speed.

So I would bet a dollar that the slower motion is due to the cold, not the filter. :)
