well i finally dropped the ball and am getting a 790 w/ 300 loader/ballast box/jd 5ft rotary. i ended up going w/ the 790 as it was the most economical machine for my budget, plus i'm sure it will handle anything i will throw at it. i know its not the top of the line creampuff but i didn't really need all the bells and whistles. i just needed a good reliable little workhorse, which hopefully i chose wisely.

Hey, IT'S a John Deere! The "gimme" bells n whistles come with all the John Deeres. An unbeatable parts and service infrastructure that's years ahead of the next closest competitor. (Shoot, the dealer my uncle uses, still stocks stuff for his '47 G model Deeres.) A dealer who's not "embarassed" to support the equipment they sold you.

Hi my first post here just found this place looks like lots of good info. No droped ball at all. I have a 1996 JD770 (23HP) the pre 790 model. I to looked at all the specs. came to the conclusion if it Picks Up more than it Weights I don't want to be setting on it. I have filled the bucket with everything no problem and pulled the lumber truck with my barn lumber on it out of the mud before tires were loaded. That little tractor has plenty of power and it fits almost anywere. Take care of it, it will last a life time. JD service and parts is the best. Good Choice /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

thanks guys. jdfan i did purchase it in colchester. they are good guys up there. we've been dealing w/ them for many years, they always can get and stock stuff for our older machines the 50 and 2010. delivery is this fri, i can't wait to get some seat time in. if this weather stays good and we get some hay down, she may be used for raking/ tedding. if not i have a bunch of projects that need to be done.
