Found a leak today. Pulled engine cover off to check and there was durt stuck to the engine from the leak, cleaned off all the dirt and cranked it up. Ran it for about 5 minutes and saw where it was coming out. I dont know what its called cause I havent got my service manual yet. Its on right side of engine, looks like a doghnut with a bolt thru the middle and small line running up to carburetor area. Put a wrench on it and didnt take much force to get a little more than an 1/8 of a turn. Figured I had better not try to tighten to much and maybe strip something. Ran it for about an hour and everything is dry now.

On another note, I didnt think that 300cx loader had enough umph to pick up the arse end of the tractor, but it did! I was cutting into an enbankment and the weight of the dirt allready in the bucket and trying of raise the arms at the same time did the trick. It was not a good feeling to feel the back coming up and the tractor start to rotate on the front axle pivot. O, and thats with loaded tires and a rear blade.

Im on my third day as a tractor owner and I realize there are lots of things that can happen, so im trying to be carefull. Anyways just thought I would share this with you guys. Had to stop working. The wind is so bad it was blowing sand in my eyes and mouth, now there are tornado warnings all over.

Ken --- you should know that you fell into the proverbial poop pile that every tractor owner/wannabe owner dreams about!!

A cherry-lookin', low-hour, priced right, 4WD, LIKE NEW ---- John Deere tractor!!!

You're the poster boy for all of us that cruise the dealer lot's and scour the Want Ads and watch the auction listing's and spend Saturday's at those foreclosure sales....

EUREKA!! Looky at that gem, wouldya!!

Enjoy your tractor and best of luck down the road.

Oh, I think you're referring to the fuel injector pump for your diesel engine (no carburator) that might be seeping a bit of fuel. (Where's that JD Tech CD at...?)

AKfish,
I knew going in to this that a 14 year old tractor is gonna have problems. Im pretty sure the leak was just from the bolt being a littile loose. If this is the worst problem I have in the first few months Ill be extremely happy. Right now Im more pevied about the 10 loads of dirt that just washed down the hill from the bad storm that just came thru. Could have been worse though, we didnt see a tornado in our immediate area. Bunch of houses around here got completely destroyed!

O, allmost forgot, the cd manual will be here by thursday probably. They said about one week for delivery.

You mentioned the sun - note that JD sells an umbrella (yellow, for sun and rain) that mounts to the ROPs (it's removable). It's about $130 and does a good job for me.

Just a little update. Ive had my hands on it for a littlle more than a week and have up more than 25 hours on it. Below is a few pics of what the tractor was bought for, although I have a long way to go still. I figure I miight get the whole yard done before this summer is over, but will have to see about things that are gonna cost more money.

Here is my newest hired hand hard a work

VERY Nice tractor. Hope I can find a deal like that soon when I go to get somethng I can bale hay with.

I got to compliment you one more time also. Thank you for wearing a seat belt so you can stay on this forum and take care of that nice boy for a looonng time. It is well proven that if you have a ROPS you should use the belt. None of us want to see a sharp turn in that sand with a full bucket turn into anything except sheet metal bends. I only have about 1000 total hours on equipment, but am always shocked at how "surprises" can happen fast.

Stay safe and welcome....I am still jealous about that good deal though!
Peter
