After a few bouts of indigestion (not from the manufacturer or my dealer but from the distributor) I finally got my new Bucktop canopy and got it installed today. Figured I should post a picture before the tree limbs get it all scratched up.

BTW, is this a "Customization" or an "Attachment"?/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Looks nice, Hoss. Who makes it, where did you get it and how much was it?

On an unrelated note, I'll bet your tines on your box blade last a long time mounted that way, don't they? /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

I know we share the need to modify our Deere's to make them accomodate 'adult' operators, so I thought I'd share this with you. I'm in the process of making a seat modification on mine. If it works out as I hope, it'll not only be further back from the steering wheel and dash to allow more leg room but also, in my case, eliminate the seat on the backhoe as this modification will allow my nice JD yellow seat to swivel around for operating it as well. /w3tcompact/icons/clever.gif

The big thing right now is making certain it'll be safe and secure enough for the long haul and trying to determine if I'll need to come up with a way to raise it when I swivel it around for the backhoe. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif It's always something. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Who makes it <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.firebirdfiberglass.com/buck.htm>Firebird Fiberglass</A>. This is their Bucktop model.

where did you get it Through my local John Deere dealer. I called Firebird because they have an "order" button on their web site, but it's not functional. They said at this time, they only sell through their distributors. So, they gave me the number for the closest distributor to me (120 miles) and I called them. They don't sell to the public either, only to tractor dealers. Sooooo, I had my local dealer call the distributor and order it.

and how much was it? Not sure right now. My dealer hasn't sent me a bill yet. I was there when he called the distributor and his price was around $375.00. He asked me if I'd be o.k. with him making $50.00 on it and I told him no problem. Should make it around $425.00.

I'll bet your tines on your box blade last a long time mounted that way, don't they? Yup, look almost new./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Actually, I had just put the BB back on. I store it with the tines up as it just sits on dirt and it's too hard to shuffle it to line up the hitch pins if the tines dig in.

further back from the steering wheel and dash to allow more leg room I've almost gotten used to the amount of leg room. If I could get some heavier springs on the seat so my 350# butt didn't bottom it out, I'd be in good shape (well, tractor wise, not shape wise).

CVHoss,

Sounds like you could use one of those inflatable cushions like they have for people with 'roids. :)

Nice looking canopy. Wish I could afford one. Maybe next year.

Man, that IS a beauty! I'd love one on my Bota, but I'm not so sure I can convince 'da wife! Of course, that would infringe upon my ability to get that good farmer's tan, wouldn't it? Maybe I should explain to her that in my old age (when I'm growing that solar panel for my sex machine atop my head) the canopy will prevent the sun from burning my bald spot! /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Hoss, I've been trying to finagle a top from a friend and thought I'd better ask you about one. As I recall you're something in the neighborhood of 6'-5. How much head room do you have with your canopy? I'm about 6'-8 or 9 and have a pretty good portion of my height in my torso and was wondering if getting a canopy might be just buying myself headaches (both literally and figuratively).

Gary,
If you were looking at getting exactly the same brand and model that I bought, I'd say you shouldn't have any problem. I'm 6'6" and have plenty of headroom once seated. It does take a little getting used to as far as mounting and dismounting the operator platform as you kind of have to stay ducked down until you hit the seat. Actually, I could probably mount mine at least 5" higher than it already is, but in my case it's not necessary. If you're looking at a different brand and model, then it could change things. Also, I have the tall folding ROPS on my tractor. If you have the standard ROPS, that could also create a little difficulty. If there's anything else you need to know, just give a holler.

Can you see the loader bucket when its all the way up?
Can you still fit into a 8' tall door?
