The Box Blade is sick. It's bigger than my whole BX25.. Nice set-up.

Welcome to the club! Get your tires filled, flip them around, get those hydraulic shims in, mount a toolbox and a cup holder and you'll be all set!

BTW, see the grade cut into the hill to the left of my dozer? It's about 3' deep? That's one edge of a building pad ~ 60' x 60' that I graded entirely with my 790 using the box blade and FEL. Most of it was the thickest, densest clay you could imagine.

The little 790 will get it done!

Congrats on the new (to you) 790. This September will be 3 years for me. So far it's been a great balance of size, power and manueverability, not to mention a good value and reliable. It was my first (and only) tractor, I'm sooo glad I did not go with a smaller (or larger really) tractor.

Nice pictures, Smokin'

Thanks, Roy. I've been making myself stop on occassion and take a picture so you guys won't think I'm just making this stuff up!

The 790 is a pretty darn capable tractor, considering it mows grass great---and you can put a decently-sized backhoe on it, too. Hmmm....backhoe....anybody know where I can get a used Woods?

Phineas----I was just using my dozer to shape up a motocross track around my place. I'll get some picture together when I get a chance...

I don't have room for an MX track. I have about a mile of trails zig-zagging around the property. I've used the 790 to place chunks of concrete, logs and RR ties that I use for my trials bike.

Have had my 3005 for about four months now (JD3005 is the renumbered 790). I like the gear shift. I have read two main negative comments about 790/3005's:
1) Only two rear speeds, one two slow the other maybe a little high. I think I would like another gear in the middle, but it is certainly not a deal changer. Eight forward speeds is enough for me. Last tractor had 12 forward and I didn't use at least four.
2) The hydraulics are set weak so you need to put in the "shims" to increase the lifting power on the bucket and three point. I guess you can do that (there ar strings on TBN that tell and show you with pictures how to do that), but there's nothing to date I've wanted to lift that my 3005 wouldn't handle. Can't imagine lifing anything heavier than I've already used it for. So I'm not bothering with the shims.

I guess I am another satisfied owner.

So now I have a question: I've never had a box blade, but it looks like just the thing for some hill smoothing and road fixing i want to do. What is the optimum size for the 790/3005? I see above a six footer mentioned. Is that what you all would suggest?

Well mud, I went with a 48 inch box blade due to width limitations. But for fixin' roads and general earth moving, the 60 to 72 inch range for box blade is well matched for the790/3005. There is a lot of 60 inch box blades on 30'ish hp tractors around here. I found a 66 incher brush hog brand box last year that really had my eye. Very well built, priced good and brand new. Just was too wide for its intended use in the tree farm.

dcyrilc, not to hijack the thread, but Bellevue is nuts. I am South of you a couple hours, but I have to run up to Bellevue every few months and I swear it gets bigger and bigger each trip. We almost bought a small farm in Duvall a couple years back when I was going to relocate permanently. Love that area up there outside the city...
