All or at least most of the 4000 Ten and 4000 Twenty Deeres have gear shifts and range shifts on the left. Dosen't take very long to get used to it. I can't see shifting and working the loader at the same time (the shuttle lever is a different story) - but being right-handed if I had to forego one or the other to make room on that side I'd have to agree having the shift levers left and the loader on the right the way they do is the best compromise.

I'm learning that I better try pricing outside of PA. That 790 price with brushog is almost the same I got for a 790 w/419 FEL non loaded tires, no ballast box, and no bhog.

Where exactly are you located in PA? I'm right on the border (okay, 30 min away) right in the Binghamton area. If you want, PM me and I'll give you the name of the good dealer i've found in this area. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Doesn't look like you are very close at all then. When I moved to NY, I was suprised just how wide a state it was! (I was from MI originally and while the Upper Peninsula is wide, the lower is not).

Good luck with your search!

Well, the saga of tractor buying is over for now. And as sadly, not as I originally intended.

My wife and I had decided on the JD 790 as being the tractor which not only fit the budget, but fit the property.

I got a couple more quotes and after factoring in all the decision points, decided which one to take. Not the cheapest, but the dealer was worth the extra to me. Decision one of the day down!

Went to the dealer and talked for a while. I had a filled out credit app, and he said he would send it to deere. He told me to call back in an hour or so and if it was approved, we would proceed! Great day so far.

After an hour I called back and he told me that Deere wouldn't qualify me for the low interest plan and would need 10% down and only give me a rate of 9.9%. Not impressive. Apparently, being in our home for under 2 years and having a little debt from school disqualified my wife and I. While we really want the tractor, we really don't want to go with this rate. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

After much discussion with my wife, we decided that we'll wait until spring or next fall to purchase a tractor. By then we may be able to save up a little more and finance differently.

But all is not lost. While I will have to blow snow with my little JD 216 again this winter, there really wasn't much time for tractoring this fall anyway with me going to school for my Masters degree starting in two weeks. Honestly, I'm still really disappointed but hey -- all things God does are for a reason!

I would like to say Thank You from the bottom of our (my wife and I) hearts for all the honest and good information. I intend to continue to follow this forum and post so I will try not to be a stranger around here!

Thanks again!

By the way... I'm officially jealous of 95% of you all again!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry to hear the bad news, but most likely, in just a short time, you will see that committing to the payment may have caused a problem you didn't anticipate. It's funny how that happens sometimes, and you'll sit back and WHEW! you'll know why it was to be.
Getting your advanced degree IS the most important thing right now, and you'll most likely be getting better income afterward, so you can get an even better tractor later.
I don't know you, but I'm proud of you for bettering your education. The tractor will come. John

Think of it this way, you have 6 more months to look at tractors /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif You might find a deal somewhere in the winter, you never know. Normally it takes me 6 months to buy a truck/car. I still have a lot of parsimounious Scotish blood in me, I'm a miser /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif.
