We got a yellow lab puppy today, another one of the things on the list of wants from selling the house.

She is closer to pure white in color than anything else, with darker ears and face. We decided to name her "Blondie", just because of her color.

Congrats on the new pup. Blondie, meet Sunny. Sunny, Blondie.

She was almost paper white when we got her, but has darkenned up on her ears, nose, and spine as she's gotten older.

Howard Jarvis continues to ruin California's finances long after his death.

Prop 13 is the one saving grace tax payers have in California...

I'm thankful each and every day that those old enough to vote had the courage to go against out of control Sacramento spending...

Try as we do... Prop 13 has been around since 1978... even the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor.

Just ask anyone facing double digit property tax increases in the 70's at the time people didn't know where their next tank of gas was going to come from.

If you really want to know what kicked Prop 13 into gear... you need look no further than the Serrano Decision that took local tax dollars for local schools and diverted them to the State to allocate.

It was one thing to pay high taxes to support local schools and quite another when that money was leaving the district.

The Politicians could have easily avoided the groundswell of support for Prop 13 if they would have simply indexed the Home Owner Exemption for inflation... something they were unwilling to do...

A $7000 exemption had real value when a modest home was 12 to 15k... means almost nothing when homes many times more.

I'm not political except when it comes to the roof over my head... call me a peasant... just don't mess with my home...

The only good and fair tax is the income tax. There is very little crying from the right about other taxes and fees. That's because the rich pay far less in all those other taxes, proportionally, than the rest of us. California wouldn't be in its current condition without Prop 13, especially if the legislature could have raised income taxes. Now after years of debt California is a nightmare.

One of many incredibly dishonest and ignorant statements by you. Prop 13 has nothing to do with the problems in CA. It does have a lot to do with the economic growth that the state enjoyed for decades after it was passed.

When the money raised in taxes goes into a general fund that can be used for anything they want it to, then nothing gets done. CA has the worse roads in the nation, some of the highest crime and the biggest debt. Paying more in taxes will not improve any of those problems, it will just give the politicians more money to buy votes and stay in office. CA is corrupt beyond belief, and it's going to have to hit bottom like every other crack addict before it will do what it has to.

Raising taxes will do exactly what it has done in every other state. Those who have the money will just move to another state. Just like they have been doing already. And then they will do just like the President did, and take every tax credit that they can to avoid paying as much as possible.

We agree completely... I am 100% for getting rid of all taxes except income tax... it is only fair.

Until that happens, I will strongly defend Prop 13 against all of the misinformation that is continually put out against it... even educated people often do not have a clue.

The beauty of Prop 13 is it's simplicity.

Prop 13 requires voter approval and eliminates much of the guess work in arriving at assessed values because opinion is left out of the equation...

Prop 13 doesn't even apply to school infrastructure... something that is always blamed on Prop 13.

Government must learn to live within it's means... for nearly 30 years under Prop 13 revenue increased...

A flat rate of 10% should be just about right. ALL should have to pay it.

That way Buffet and his secretary would be paying the same rate.

The only good and fair tax is the income tax.

If you mean our current income tax system, you've got to be kidding.

The only fair income tax is a flat tax. For every exemption, deduction, credit, loophole, etc added to the code in the name of fairness has the opposite result of making the system more unfair.

I don't hate the rich and I don't pity the poor.
