Well, I finally went and did it. Went to a local equiptment dealer and picked up a box blade. It is a Kodiak 6ft standard duty, $395. I also picked up a toothbar for my FEL, $303. Then I went to my local Long dealer and picked up a hydraulic top link, plumbed up to work off of one of my rear SCVs, $164. I have to wait about a week for the cylinder that will work for the tilt on the 3PH, will have it plumbed for the other rear SCV,figure about $250 total on it. I plan to get a set of valves to run the top and tilt eventually, but figure it will work fine off the SCVs for now. I wanted the lines of the toplink quick disconnected anyway as I will have to remove it when I have my backhoe mounted.

I have to admit, the toplink makes using the boxblade a lot easier. I was "playing" around with it smoothing up a loging road they just put in when I had my place timbered. Having the fine control of the angle of the blade without having to leave the tractor seat was very nice. Can't wait to get the tilt function so I can control that as well.

Thanks to everyone who posted on the boxblade threads and the Top -n- Tilt threads, made my purchase decisions alot easier.

Sounds like a nice set up, Ed. As long as you don't need the SCVs for something else at the same time as you're using the Top 'N Tilt (and I doubt that you would), I sure don't see anything wrong with that arrangement.

Ed,
Who is the Kodiak blade manufactured by ? My search's for Kodiak Box Blades is only turning up pocket knives. $395 seems like a good price for a 6', How much do you figure it weighs ?

Re: Kodiak Rear rake/ Box blade Specs

Once again, John comes through. Where do you get all this stuff ? I noticed some penned in numbers on top of the picture, was that price, or weight. Thanks for the reply.

Bird,
I plan on getting a set of valves, as I would like to be able to float the toplink for brush hogging etc., and to make it more convient as my SCV controls are below the seat. At this time I didn't have the extra money for the valves, so I figured this would work for now.
Thanks for the reply,

Mark,
My search for Kodiak on the web only revealed a dealer who sold them. Didn't list specs or prices. I'm not sure about the weight as it didn't have a manual. I did get the price on the 5 ft as well, it was around $310. I went with the 6 ft as my R1s are set to 5'6" at thier widest and I wanted to cover my tracks.
Thanks for the reply,

Re: Kodiak Rear rake/ Box blade Specs

Hi Ed...

I was looking at those units at the NY Farm Show a few weeks back...

Those prices were quoted by the distributor... as retail...

On ground engaging implements... one of the things I look for is a strong A-frame assembly... since I don't own a box blade... I can only tell you what my eye likes... certainly not experience from using one... the best I've seen so far has been the Gill... $$$$$$$$$$ /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Kodiak Rear rake/ Box blade Specs

The box seems heavy enough for what my use will be, I did stop the tractor (lost traction) when I hit some larger roots with the scarifiers, didn't bend any thing, just backed up a little and tilted the box back a little so I cleared the root (love the hyd. top link already). The only problem I had with the box is the center scarifier would hit the draw bar if I lifted it all the way up, but as I have a swinging drawbar, I just moved it over one posistion and it cleared no problem.
Thanks for the info,

Ed King
