Ok, so for tractors, there's no Kelly Blue Book or Edmunds site that has invoice prices like you have for cars. So is there any way to get the invoice price so I can properly negotiate a new tractor purchase? And...do dealers negotiate much at all or is it sort of like motorcycles...you buy at what they ask or you just don't buy? I found a dealer WAY out of state that sells for about $1,000 less than my local dealer on the tractor I want...but I'm hoping to negotiate the same price locally. My disadvantage is still paying taxes if bought locally.

Look on this site. It gives the "list prices" on a lot of tractors, and the Minnesota state discount.

That page still won't give you an "invoice price". Besides, shipping varies between dealer locations, which in effect varies the "invoice" to the dealer.
If we knew what the dealer paid everyone would want him to accept $50 over invoice or not buy it there. There are discounts and incentives given by the manufacturers, but not to the extent that GM, Ford and whoever else sells cars/trucks.
The dealer knows what he needs to make to survive. Now if he is down right gouging everyone, I think the word would get out and he'd have to adjust his practices.

I think this particular dealer is a little high. Kinda like how motorcycle dealers do their customers. They know there aren't many dealers around so they expect you to pay whatever they ask. I may very well end up driving to NC to buy one if they won't/can't come down to match the price. The free enterprise system is awesome...if I don't like the price and they can't deal because of their overheard or profit they want...I can go spend my money somewhere else. I definitely WANT the dealer to make money. I just want the best deal I can get. I would think it's in their best interest to sell the crap out of these things, because more customers means more money in the long run.

Don't count on gettin out of the taxes if you buy from another state. To many people thought they could do that to only find out they have to pay it a year later and even then have a fine for not reporting it.

If the local Cincy dealer thinks his tractors are gold plated underneath all that blue paint, drive on up to Jackson and see the boys at Cross and Sons. They love to give good prices.

I guess it all depends on your states tax laws. KY has a personal property tax for cars, but I doubt there's a personal property tax like that on tractors. Plus...if they want to charge taxes, I guess I'll have to delcare this 15 acres or so a 'farm' and get a tax break that way /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif We do plant a rather large garden every year. Maybe 60' x 85' Used to have a couple cows that would be slaughtered every year, but we don't do the cow thing anymore. You can buy lots of stuff on the internet tax free, and this could be one more of those items. There's a few places selling like this that state they sell tax free if sold out of state.

Anyway, that's not the biggest issue. It's just one of them. I'm more interested in getting my in-law a great price - and them it wouldn't feel so bad handing over $1,000 extra in taxes that would most certainly end up in the wasteful hands of our government. That's another topic though /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif (I live near cincinnati, but am actually in KY)

Like Jerry said head East on 32 till you see Jackson. Get off at the Main St. exit. Follow it through town and you'll see 93 on your right (right by the Sunoco and Poor Boy Tire) take 93 and go about 2 or 3 miles and you'll see Cross and Sons on your left. From 275 there in Cincy to Jackson should take around 2 - 2 1/2 hours. From what I've seen Ancil will come real close to the price of the boys in NC.

Thanks. I guess my only issue with buying in OH is the higher tax rate (7%, right?). It's 6% in KY. So if I do pay taxes, it's 1% less in KY. Not a whole lot more on the total cost though - maybe $170 or so.

It varies by county. I think Jackson Co. is 6.75% but I won't swear to it. I know Ross County (where I live) is 7.5%.

As others have said take a look at this form:
