My elderly neighbour (92) had a large white pine come down in his yard and he asked if I was interested in the wood and if I could clean it up for him. As I bought the tractor for logging on my land, of course I agreed to help. I have a good friend who has just bought a sawmill and so he and I set to.....
The first 2 Saturday mornings were spent cleaning up the smaller trees, chipping the brush and taking hardwood out for the firewood pile. This weekend we tackled the main trunk and I really got to test the Kubota. In the end we removed seven 8'4" lengths. The butt of the tree was around 36" diameter. My kids and I counted the rings on the stump (after it fell horizontal back into the hole) and figure around 120 years. I was able to skid all the pieces out without difficulty but I could not lift the final piece with the FEL. It is also too large for the sawmill so I will have to trim it before moving it.
Here are the pieces before removal

the second smallest piece....

Larger piece...

The largest piece I could lift was around 25" to 26" diameter and I calculated this to be around 1100 lbs with another 270 lbs for the pallet forks so I figure this is about right given how far out the load is.
With loaded rear tires and my box blade on the back, I had no worries about balance and felt I had plenty of weight on the back.
The best bit was the smile on my neighbours face as we removed the logs. A very enjoyable 2.5 hours of tractor time.
