Gary,

I just moved into my new one in June. A dozer roughed in the yard and I finished it up with a landscape rake. Then threw down some Penn State mix and straw and within a week I had grass (I planted about three weeks ago). Your soil looks good. You could probably get away with the same process if you hurry...winter is coming soon!

Can't help you with a rental company but I'm sure you will find one.

Thanks for the comments about the house. It's been in the works for a long time. We bough the land in Feb 2004 and have been working since then to make it all happen. I really can't wait to move in -- which will happen a week from Friday.

I did call around today and found a place that sells yard rakes. They also rent a skidsteer rockhound and something they say is "just like a Harley Rake" which connects to the front of the skidsteer. He said that one leaves tires tracks. The skidsteer rockhound is $400 a day and I think that'll be the first thing I try. When I asked about renting a rake for the tractor, the guy on the phone didn't say "yes" but didn't say no either.

I think he is referring to the suggestion regarding the harley rake which is a power rake. Those can run up to 5-6 thousand dollars. I HOPE because as you noted my 5 foot landscape rake with NO guide wheels ran about 200+.

GaryS, I also looked into the "Rock Hound" as I can't find a true Harley Rake to rent. I'm not worried about the tire marks that are left behind but I have to get the tons of rocks out! Let us know how it goes.

Puzzling that there are no Harley Rakes to rent. That is a big rental item in this area. Because of the price, and because of the great job they do, they are a good item to rent. What happens however, is people rent them and then don't bring them back -- they buy them and keep 'em. So when I show up to rent one, sometimes I have to wait for them to get a new one set up and ready, as the 'rental' was purchased.
Once running one, its hard to go back to anything else.

They also have the Harley's on skidsteers, and just running them backwards gets rid of the 'tire' tracks. Other brands of power rakes are around too, and at least one is a spittin image of the Harley. Keep looking for a power rake to get your job done the best. Wish you luck.

The guy on the phone said "yard rakes start at $800-$900 and go up from there". He also said that the Harley Rake was in the $5000-$6000 range. I have to assume he was way off on the yard rake. If they are $200-$300, I may look at getting one.

I have an uncle that lives in Franklin Park, Locust Rd. to be exact. He fixes up old mowers and sells them every spring. He's lived there in the same house since 1949 I think. I used to spend some time there during the summers as a kid back in the '70's. It used to be all rural with a few dairy farms near his house. I was there last year and almost didn't recognize it. Not much rural area left.
