Hi Guys!
I need a 5 foot finish mower. Yes, I know which ones are the best, but I think the Woods and Land are a bit pricey. I only have just over 2 acres.

I have seen a few on Ebay and others. Some def. look cheap.

What would you buy? Maybe buy used?

Rear discharge looks the best. Is this right?

All opinions welcome!

Thanks!

You get what you pay for. I have had 3 Land Prides 5 6 and now 7. Great cut and durable. If you can't afford new buy used. I sold my 5 foot for 900 and my 6 foot for 850 in this bad economy. I think you'd be fine with Woods Bush Hog Etc.

What ever model you get, make sure it is a rear discharge. With the rear discharge your get grass will not winrow if it is long when you mow it. I have a Woods RD7200 which I bought at auction several years ago for $800. The mower was 2 years old and like new when I bought it. It cuts very nice.

I looked @ many mowers and found the Landpride 5 ft. @ 1300.00 in Baytown. It was the best built and price. I mow 2 acres with it and would swear by it. As I have learned, buy the most affordable for the $$$. Some times HFT is fine and other times Craftsman. Do what you can and take the best care of the product and hope it will last . jb

I have a KK 72" rear discharge. I mow about 5 acres at least once a week some times more depending how much fertilizer I put down. I have had it for 3 yrs. and have had no problems . not even a belt. I did repaint it as soon as I got it home. It mows great.

First Choice.
I've been using a 7' First Choice rear discharge to mow 7 acres for 4 or 5 years now.
Very nice mower, very nice cut.

I bought a dark horse 72" mower from Tractor supply for $250 brand new. The paint is a little crude but the rest of it seems O.K. I will let you know in a couple of years how it is working out. It is very heavy and has a lot of grease fittings.:cool::cool:

Have a 6 ft Land Pride - 3 blade - well built. Using a 35 hp JD820 to pull. Wish I had sprung for an 8 ft machine. Well pleased with the cost / performance. Be sure you can get replacement belts and blades off the shelf. Local Land Pride guy doesn't stock anything. Normally you won't need parts very often - I have a very rocky 4 acre lot to keep nice. Merry Christmas, Steve
