Finish mower leaving a strip of Grass.

If you have front wheels, no the chains won't help. If you have a "loose" blade, it may or may not be the spindle. Quite possibly, it's the somewhat complicated clutch and blade holding assembly Woods has utilized forever. If the assembly becomes loose, from wear, hitting something, or extremely heavy grass/weeds/brush, such that the clutch slips, the clutch wears out very quickly, and the blade becomes loose. Fortuneately, if this is the case, the clutch discs, which appear to just be a round piece of masonite, are very cheap. Let me know if this appears to be the case as I have some suggestions to minimize this from happening in the future.

My RM 48 Woods has the twisted belt too. There is no gear box on mine, so the belt goes around a big drive pulley, an idler, a tightener and 3 spindles. In order to make all those turns, you have to put a twist in the belt when installing it. I doubt if anyone can replace this belt without the diagram. As for the unmowed strip, if you have a loose blade it can't be mowing very much. You may need a new blade bolt. I use 2 sets of blades crossed at 90 degrees on my Woods. Big improvement.
