(first time poster) I'm in process of assembling a packaged offer on a new Kubota B7500, FEL, box blade, etc. and have a question concerning the not so obvious differences between a mmm and rmm. The b7500 has both mid and rear PTO and I'm aware of the "swing-out" factor of 3pt implements. I'm just wondering. Of those that have finish mowers, are there distinct differences in functionality? I live in the hill laden area of east TN and have about 2 acres of f-mowing.
Thanks-

Maskimxul,
I have looked at both and ended up with the MMM. I have too many trees in the area I mow to use a rmm due to lack of maneuverability. On the other hand....each time I hook up the MMM, I wish that I could just hook up a rmm to the 3ph. To my mind, that is the trade off, easy hook up with a rmm but you pay a price in maneuverability. Either type of finish mower will generally do a satisfactory job.
Good Luck,

Bill

I originally planned on a mmm but balked at the price. Am now planning on rmm. I would definitely watch someone put one on and off before buying a mmm. I've heard easy, but I've also heard the opposite. Depends on tractor and if you have a flat place to store it. There are several threads around here that get into this. For lots of cutting around trees, mmm may be better. But for backing into areas, rmm may be better. And if your main use is finish mowing where you can leave it on all the time, mmm may be better. As far as which cuts better, someone else will have to address that. But do a search on mid mounts and rear mount mowers to see what's been posted before.

One thing to add here is the RMM is a pain in the neck!! No, literaly a pain in the neck from looking back at it all the time. If you don't have any trees to go around you won't have to look back at it so much, but I guess instinct for me around equipment I would be constantly looking back at it to make sure everything was working ok. The RMM will do a better job of mowing from what I am told. However to me the MMM would because of the higher PTO speeds. And yes the MMM can be pain taking it off and putting it back on. I usually leave mine on pretty much the whole summer unless I know I will be doing a lot of loader work.

I got my RMM when I got the tractor. It does take a lot of finesse to learn to mow around the trees, but after a few times you get used to it. When I get lucky, the wife unit takes the rider around all the trees.
The best use for the RMM for me is to cut around the fruit trees. They hang so low even the rider can't cut close, so I use the RMM for that. Other than a riding mower, I have not used a MMM, but maybe with the next tractor purchase /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I went with the RMM. I wanted to keep the mower on and be able to box blade or bush hog / rotary cutter. So I was close to getting a MMM. I don't have a lot of trees to manuver around and I needed to cut costs where possible, so I considered the RMM. Cost, lower clearance with the MMM on, and not wanting to have to climb up over the MMM getting on and off the tractor helped make me decide on the RMM. One year later I'm happy with my decision. Changing impliments took a little getting used to, but I got a spud bar to help nudge this way or that, and that makes changing things a lot easier.

There are +'s and -'S to both. I had a RFM on my last tractor and have a MMM on my B2710. after owning and using both I vote for the MMM. I can take off and put on the MMM almost as fast as the RFM. And the cut is much better with the MMM, since you are not driving over the grass with the rear tires before cutting it. Only thing I find to be harder is cleaning the bottom of the mower on the MMM. You have to take it off to really do a good job. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I vote with Von. I've had both, MMM wins hands down for my property (lots of trees). If you have open field, save the $1,000 and get the RFM. Any significant obstacles: Trees, house, fence, flower beds etc, get the MMM. If the tree branches are in the way, prune them, or mulch under the tree so you don't have to drive so close.

The MMM takes a bit longer to get on & off, but only you know how often you will be doing heavy dirt work & need the extra clearance.

All,
Thanks for all of the great info! Mowing is only a small percenatge of my forseeable tasks and most of it is on the straight-a-way! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I also like the idea of drop and go that the rfm will allow for.
Thanks again for the GREAT info!

Moon,
Forgive my ignorance, but what is a spud bar?
