Good idea. For a long time, I have been planning on redoing the deck on my Dixie Chopper pretty much the same way. I primarily need additional plates under the blade path. This Florida sand and speed of the blades make a good sand blaster. Eats the blades up also. These decks cost new about $500, and the additional steel will extend the life of the unit. I will use the spindle bolts to hold the plate in the middle and tack weld the outside edges. I wonder if stainless steel will hold up to sand blasting better than steel.

I hear you on the pice of the belt. I would love to have a spare but not at that price. When my belt blew there was no warning and the mower was completly unusabe. Currently my dealer is an hour away. There is a new Kubota dealer coming into town and I hope they will carry land pide too.

I don't think Stainless has any better resistance against the sand abrasion, but it might help with the wet grass affect that starts the rust. Probably won't help with the water sitting on top of the deck, but should help against groundwater causing it to rust out when it sits. If you can get a piece of T-1 plate, it is very abrasive resistant.
