Finish Mower Size

Hi I posted this question on the buying/pricing forum along with my introduction but thought that this may the right place to post it.
Is a John Deere 790 big enough to power a 6' finish mower or should I get a
5' finish mower in order to be sure that there is enough power to operate it properly.

If you use a finish mower as a finish mower, and not as a brush cutter you will be fine with a 6 foot.
If you get into heavy taller grass just pick a lower gear until you get into the stuff you should be using a finish mower for... KennyV.

Remember A finish mower is just a lawn mower nothing else. The blades are pulled by a belt not direct drive like a rough cutter. Cutting high grass is hard on the belts. you should be fine with a 6'.

You've got the power, but I'm not sure you've got the hydraulics. The 790 is rear lift is only rated to 815 pounds. My finish mower for example, weighs 860#. The other thing is front weight. If you've got a loader, no problem. But if not, you don't even have to get near the rear lift max to make the front end too light when carrying. A light duty six footer may be ok, but could be a little delicate. You might be better off with a standard duty five footer.

Thanks for the info, I do have a loader on the front.
I have been looking at a used 6' Land Pride that weighs a little over 600 lbs. I'll probably buy it if it's still for sale when I find enough time to pick it up.
