I need some feedback on how large of a finish mower I can use with my YM2000. Thanks

I have a YM2000 myself. Have had it for five years now. I use a Caroni 6 foot (72 inch) finish mower. It does a great job. No power issues at all. I mow approximately 4 acres of yard each week. It is all flat. If I had a lot of hills or real rough ground, a 5 footer might work a bit better. The only thing I really wish for is that I think I would have liked rear discharge. Good luck.

I would think side discharge would be better. If you mow in the proper direction you will re-mow the discharged grass for a finer mulch.

Well Norm, I respectfully disagree. Although mine does a good job, some side discharge mowers have a tendency to windrow a bit if the grass is taller. Mowing in the proper direction would have your grass blowing out away from the grass. So you don't "mow" over the cut grass. I guess you could do that but kinda defeats the purpose. Just MHO.

You lost me there; however, my mower discharges to the right, so if I mow in a clockwise direction, it discharges onto the unmown grass and gets mowed again.

You are correct in what you say, but the consensus would be that is not the correct way to mow. I believe you are supposed to blow the grass away and not pile it up. But hey it's your grass, mow it however you want. I think it is harder to mow this way as in harder on the equipment and burns more fuel.

You are right, side discharge is not better. That's just the way rotary cutters work, and most mowers seem to be side discharge; however, if you discharge into the unmown grass it WILL help to eliminate windrows. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it;) .)

I have a YMG2000D and mow about 6.0 acres. I use a 5' KK with side discharge. I sometimes go a couple of weeks between mows. It came from my brother in law free. If I was to get a new mower I would go with a 5 or 6 ft rear discharge. The rear discharge uses less hp. thanks big dan
