Finish Mowers

 / Finish Mowers #21
I bought the Bush Hog 60 inch rear discharge with solid tires, it is well made and I have had no problems with it at all. Would buy again since it had been on the lot for two years and got it for $795.00. I was told to be sure and run it at 540 that less than that the seals could fail. It cleans good, cuts good, bigest complain is a little on the noise high side but this could be true with all. Blades was tough and have not even had to sharpen them. I cut 2 to 3 acres weekly during the cutting season. With out the fm could not get the job done.

Frank,
How do you feel about your Befco? Any issues you've come across so far? Easy to adjust, nice cut, even discharge, well built?

I'm pricing one out right now (72" Rear Discharge Finish Mower). I like this one because it uses off the shelf belt sizes.

Thanks in advance

( Sicma sell the same mowers under several names here in the states is my understanding. )

let me question; can Sicma be considered among "major" manufacturers of finish mower? Or, who are "major" finish mower mfgs? land pride? king kutter? first choice? who else?

Erol,
Sicma is MFG for John Deere but not all the Sicma products will have the quality of the JD products.

I've been told here by someones that "major" finish mower manufacturers are engineering & researching & developing new finish mower blades in some scientific level. So, that was why I asked who were "major" finish mower manufacturers? Is Sicma one of them "major" manufacturers? Mark, can your manufacturer Koylu be considered as a "major" finish mower manufacturer?

sorry late posting back, but yes i like the befco very much, very easy to adjust the belts , cut is good and the rear disharge is fine. i do get some clumping if th grass is wet or i let i get to high. cours u will get the same with any mowere, in the same conditions.

I think I recall someone telling me, more finish mowers were manufactured in Italy than anywhere. I think Sicma is in Italy. I do not know how many more manufacturers might be there.

Check out Rhino. They belong among those listed. I have one and it is made well. Nearly 5 years old, fairly light use, but no problems at all.

About 90% of all finish mowers are being made in Italy. But my question was which of them or which of other MFGs in the world are "MAJOR" manufacturers of finish mowers where finish mower blades are being researched, designed, developed, etc. is Sicma, yes an Italian Mfg, a "major" manufacturer? Gokmenler, Koylu, Turkay, Deger who are MFGs of CCI and/or Agri Supply are major MFGs? First Choice? can they design/develop a finish mower blade? King Kutter? Land Pride? Toro? Who? Who is/are "major" finish mower manufacturers? That was my question.

I used a Land Pride 72" for six years, probably 400 hours, mowing both lawn and pasture. I got good service out of this unit, 3 sets of blades, 1 spindle and a set of new tires.

In 1999 I purchases a Woods RM990, rear discharge, which is a super duty unit. This is great unit, especially for mowing pasture area which is not as smooth as a lawn, however I still mow around the house on occasion. I would suggest getting solid tires, since flats do occur. Rear discharge is a must, especially from a safety standpoint, as well as not having the discharge chute hanging out there.

Both units mowed quite nicely, however not as good as a regular lawn mower. Scalping can be a issue, especially on the larger unit, the anti-scalping rollers helped but did not eliminate it.

I didn't spend much time looking at the Italian brands, the ones stocked locally didn't look strong enough for my usage.
