Hello, I'm a new member and own a JD 2210. I have approx 4-5 acres of new grass I will be cutting soon and wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions for a 3 pt finishing mower. I'm leaning toward a Frontier 60".

I have a Frontier GM1060L. It is considered an economy model. I suspect that means that the 3PH is designed for SCUT height. I mow about 5 acres of very rough pasture. I can do just under an acre an hour. If it were smoother I could go faster. I'm pleased with the quality of the mow and it will eat right through bunch grass (tussick) and 1/2-3/4 inch sticks. It was not I-match so my dealer made a modification on the top hook and I use an adustable top link. I went with the RFM (four independent wheels) so that I could get maximum float over the very rought spots. It does that. I didn't think a MMM would do it and would just get in the way for other work. One thing about the RFM is that thin tall grass that is ran over by the tractor wheels doesn't always bounce back up in time for the mower. Looks great on a pasture, I guess if it was lawn I'd have a MMM. My bushings and lower I-match attachment joints are taking a bit of a beating. If this proves to be too much for the economy RFM I may look at an LX4.

I'm not sure who builds the GM1060L for Frontier. It resembles the Woods and a few others. Good Luck. There are quite a few RFM threads on the Attachments discussion if you search for them. Good luck.

I have a JD 272 rfm and it does a good job and is well built. They do make the 261 which is a 60 inch variant and is also well built. I am only selling mine since I got a mid mount mower instead due to trees. If you get a deere you will need to get the optional front gauge wheel kit to eliminate all scalping as they only come standard with the rear wheels. With a deere you'll get parts forever.

I also suggest you take a look at the Woods mowers. I've had excellent luck with Woods over the last 20 years. I currently have a RD7200 that I pull behind my 970. It's pretty heavy, but that's because it's built like a tank and will last forever. This one also is rear discharge, which is much better than side discharge for heavier cutting.

It's pretty heavy, but that's because it's built like a tank and will last forever. This one also is rear discharge, which is much better than side discharge for heavier cutting.
