Dumb question perhaps, as problems with my internet prevent me from opening links; is this a party where expectant parents tell what their baby will be; or a new age reveal of what somebody "Identifies as"?

Same question for me too..... but I was more distracted by "When the __________ did explosives and birth get to be a good idea ?".

When I get to thinking.... Things can't get More Goofy Out There...... I usually get snapped out of that quickly.....

I mentioned to the wife how I had sneeringly disparaged the need for gender reveal parties, upon which I was informed that I might be a curmudgeon. :shocked: Could be.

I've never heard of a gender reveal party until this. I was thinking parties I went to 50 years ago it was easy to tell gender. Then reading I see it's for babies. Since it's California though I thought kids could choose what gender they wanted to be.
It's all so confusing.

^^very sad.....Also, I wonder how many structures have been destroyed because of a peni$ party.

The woman believed to have created the gender reveal party when she cut into a cake with pink on the inside in 2008, Jenna Karvunidis, has now denounced gender reveal parties and the toxic masculinity inherent in them.

"Stop it. Stop having these stupid parties," Karvunidis wrote in response to the news of the El Dorado fire. "For the love of God, stop burning things down to tell everyone about your kid's *****. No one cares but you."

Will they go after the family for costs of fighting the fire, property loss, and manslaughter charges? Time will tell.

It made news because of the sensationalism. BBQs cause several magnitudes more. Let's not ban burning outdoors... let's be more careful. I love BBQing. BTW... I have been to a couple gender reveal parties as a 'grandpa'. They can be quite fun and original. It is a bit bizarre but that is the generation that we spawned.

Agreed de, a little UnCommon (today) Sense, would go a long way.

Family farm, years ago....... fields getting brushed out (heavy forest border), brush got piled middle of field. Got burned, months later, dead of Winter. Zero risk in the middle of a field, with 3' of snow down. Farmhouse heated with wood, over a 100 years, zero fire accidents.

Progress...... Candid Camera was unique many years ago. Today, some people get caught up in must-post-video-to-get-attention-today addiction. Like most addictions, judgement goes out the window.....

A young kid used to be expected to understand basic fire-safety, at least if raised by responsible adults......
