Firefox is just another browser, probably worse than IE because of the additional work needed to have the kind of 'net experience' one is used to. I installed it on my PC about one month ago, stopped using it as I do not care to be searching for plug-ins all over the net. Additionally, for those promoting popup blocking, tabbed browsing an all, there are programs like Avant than sit atop IE, and provide these features without the hassle.

I did go to the homepage and even did a search for plug-ins. Where on the homepage are they?
The other thing I don't like about Firefox is the scroll feature is gone. You have to click on the upper tool bar before you can scroll through the web page?
I did finally find on the Sun Systems home page the plug in I needed and tried downloading it from there, but I only come up with the same error as when I click on the link from the browser.
I probably will go back to IE.

Doesn't work whether I click on either link you gave me. One of the links you can click on download all day and it just goes back to where it was. The other link takes me to where I have been already. No matter how I try downloading it, online or offline, or from your link it comes up with the error attached. It is like it is trying to connect to a server that doesn't exist.

Did you go to the first link I posted? The plugin one? It has all the plugins including the Java JRE 5.0. When I click on them they take me right to download pages and I can download them.
Here they are. Right click and open in new tab. Then follow for the download. I am not having trouble on this end so go for Java first.

I've played with firefox, it is pretty nice as a replacement for IE (that won't allow every piece of spyware that comes down the pike to be installed on your computer).
But nobody has even come close to Opera yet, and the convenience of having 30-40+ browser windows available at the click of a button, plus numerous other enhancements for the serious surfer.
I have no practical choice about who makes my OS, but fortunately have many when it comes to the applications I use /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yep, that is the page I was at. It downloads and then during the install is when the error comes up. I can get the file, in fact I even have it on my desktop yet. Even installing from the file on my desktop I get the error.

If you were able to get them downloaded to your computer then close everything else down and install them on the computer. If you have virus protection on shut that down temporarily. Esch will ask what browser you want to install and use them for them for.
Never seen this kind of problem before. Do you have Win XP w/ SP2? If so try disabling the Win inet security features temporarily. Can't tell you how to do that though cause I have applied the sp yet.

I have XP with service pak 2. I did try installing it with everything shut down. I will give it a shot again this evening sometime.

Unloded Norton Anti-Virus and turned off the Windows security stuff. Same thing, gets to that one file and won't go any further. Maybe if I get some time I can do some digging on the technical support page. Until then it's back to IE
