Firepit on wood deck?

/ Firepit on wood deck? #11
One fire hazard problem with a raised deck is dead leaves or whatever that can be underneath the deck. Deck fires caused by careless smoking are not rare, so you obviously have the potential for fire. Maybe someone sells a large all-weather hearth pad that you could set the pit on. Bricks and such are not going to look good and they take away stability.

Like others, I would probably conclude I just don't have a good place for a fire pit and let it go at that.

We are so very dry right now - outside fires, even for cooking or religious purposes??? are not allowed. We just had a massive wildfire come thru my area and miss my property by only 100 feet. Fire hazards of an open cooking unit on the deck is just to great.

The propane option may be the compromise since I can shut it down and not have to worry about a reflare; just standby until its cool to the touch and keep a charged hose nearby.

I thank everyone for their thoughts and opinions on this. As I said I am just kicking this around a bit at this point trying to come up with a reasonably safe solution to our desire for a firepit on the deck.

Hopefully this thread will help someone in the future compilating such a choice.
