Firewood - Pocket change for our son.

Mom is 84 and still looks forward to going to my brothers farm to spit and stack wood... honest... it gives her so much pleasure and she remembers.

When they bought the place there was a "Pit" of decaying cut wood... total disaster... might as well break an ankle venturing in... plus the snakes love woodpiles.

When my brother and sister in law were away celebrating their anniversary... we spent the day there making several nice elevated stacks... neat and tidy and one day a year we go out and split rounds and stack...

With all the things they need so do... firewood pile was very low on the list but much appreciated.

When me, my older brother and younger sister were kids, we used to help cut/split wood. My sister moved 5.5hrs away, so she doesn't anymore but me and my brother both still help my father. I don't even burn wood. When my and my brother were younger, we used to hunt night crawlers and sell them for $2.75/dozen. Didn't get paid til we sold 'em. We packaged them up, used to open the containers for customers so they could see how fat and healthy they were. Taught us a lot about work and dealing with people. We didn't have an allowance. We wanted money, we worked for it.

Night Crawlers........ We dont see any earth worms here unless a lot of rain. Good idea though.

Speaking of lessons...reminded me of a funny story. Back in February, I went to Homeland...and as I got out of my truck, I noticed a mother and two kids getting out of her car. It was a very cold and windy day, an one of her kids...a boy about 6 or 7, was dressed in Summer clothing with no coat. He was jumping around, whining while his mother was getting the other child out of the car. I hollered at him "Hey, boy, where's your coat?"
His mother smiled, and said "We're learning a life's lesson today, with real world consequences!"

Cracked me up. I said "Having raised a couple myself, I know just where you're coming from". She didn't have to explain; I knew the story by heart!
