Mom is 84 and still looks forward to going to my brothers farm to spit and stack wood... honest... it gives her so much pleasure and she remembers.
When they bought the place there was a "Pit" of decaying cut wood... total disaster... might as well break an ankle venturing in... plus the snakes love woodpiles.
When my brother and sister in law were away celebrating their anniversary... we spent the day there making several nice elevated stacks... neat and tidy and one day a year we go out and split rounds and stack...
With all the things they need so do... firewood pile was very low on the list but much appreciated.
