My drive is about 750 foot long and has been covered in ice for weeks as we have been hit with some pretty nasty ice storms here in Northeast Ohio. The weather has not moderated in days so the ice just keep accumulating. Salt does absolutely no good I have put down several hundred pounds with little or no results. Because of the ice I keep all traffic on my access drive to a minimum until things get a bit better. All UPS & Fed Ex deliveries and pick-ups are temporally made at the end of the drive as well as trash pick ups until the ice goes away. All my children have instructions to park on the high side of the drive for safety purposes.
Well today being trash day I loaded everything in my trailer and hooked it up to the TC-40D to take to the end of the drive. As I was unhooking the trailer to leave it at the street Samantha my stepdaughter came in with her 4 wheel Tracker to help my wife Rose with the Internet business. She honked as she drove by.
Once I got the trailer unhooked I buckled back up and headed for the house in high range (first mistake). When I came to the to the last 200 feet of my drive where it slopes the worst I could see Samantha had ignored my suggestion and parked on the lower side of the drive. I slowly lifted my foot off the hydro pedal to slow and nothing happened, I was now in a full slide and moving fast. I hit the reverse hydro pedal (second mistake) and immediately went into a spin. I remember seeing Samantha's Tracker on the half spin. She was still standing next to her car with an expression of terror on her face as I was now heading for her car.
I Fit FEL float and dropped the 72 inch bucket as fast as I could but I still did a complete 360 before I could get the TC-40D back under control. I got it stopped just inches from her car. No one was hurt, no damage was done, and I never felt like I was in any danger myself since my seat belt was where it was supposed to be, But man, what an adrenaline rush! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I hope that was my last time that I'll need to use panic moves in a long, long time.
By the way, Samantha told me after it was all over that I would never have to ask her to park on the high side of the drive again. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
