I'm considering doing my first 50 hour maintenance myself to save costs and it looks like no big deal but and I had some questions . It says to change the hydraulic filter and the H.S.T. filter . Do I need to change the transmission oil at this time as well? if not then will I need to top it off or are the filters empty when I take them off? Thanks

Unless they have changed the rules you won't have to change the hydraulic fluid. My manual just says to change the filters. That is to pick up any slivers of metal filings that may have come off things. OR that may have been in there from the manufacturing of the thing. You will need to fill to the settings required by the manufacturer. Because you will lose at least a filter worth of fluid which is no big thing.

I'm confused  .

I assume you have the Operator's Manual because you refer to "It says...". In there it clearly indicates the hydraulc fluid doesn't get changed until 300 hours. Or are you looking at a different manual?

The filters will not be empty when you take them off, particularly the hydraulic ones since they are vertical. It's always a good idea to fill the news ones before putting them on.

Actually it says transmission fluid at 300 hours (same thing) , but all I have is a printed sheet that has the maintenance chart. I have a new Manual on order . Thanks for the info

Isn't it a common sump? I think you can't change one and not the other.

Yes it's a common sump. I'll change it at 300 hours

The hydro and transmission filters are not cheap. And even though they are expensive and even though they share the same sump I would change both of them. I beleive your tranny filter has a better filtering system in it to protect your hydro. Don't take chances. Change both filters and oil at 300 hours.

As far as filling the filters back up one of them on my tractor is horizontal so you could not fill it back up. But it will fill immediately when the tractor starts and then you could add some to the resevoir if needed. You may find it is within range even though you changed both filters. What ever you do, check your levels when done to make sure you have the correct amount in the system and watch for leaks.
