Hi everyone,

My Kubota dealer sells UDT for $36 /5 gallon container so I decided to do the first 50 hours service on my L3010 w/HST myself. I did purchase the shop manual, (still waiting for delivery…) but I do not think this is that big a deal.

Other then have a couple of 5 gallon buckets and 2-3 hotel towels, does anyone have any final thoughts before I make a mess?

My dealer will give me a fast tour before I start the procedure, but if anyone has done this before, your thoughts would be helpful.

Thank you!

If i remember right that isnt a bad price for that liquid gold ...i mean UDT.

I took one five gallon bucket and cut it so it would fit under the drains near your tires. the two outer ones. plus my L3000dt doesnt exactly have a high ground clearance . higher than most of the super lawn mowers but it just made it easier . oh and do your higher drain plugs first in your xmsn then pour that into a storage bucket so you can have the half bucket for other drains .
i actually had four buckets on hand.

yours will have a xmsn filter but mine just had a screen. i cleaned the screen with mineral spirits and blew it dry. mineral spirits is pretty mild and is a good solvent.

i really didnt make a big mess if your careful you can avoid alot of spills . now that i said that next time i will make a huge mess.
good luck.

oh your owners manual should have all the info you need for your 50.

Is that Super UDT, or regular? I payed $55 for a 5 gallon bucket of super liquid gold.

I just did mine on my BX2200. Here are a couple of tips:

Spread out a plastic drop cloth and drive your tractor on it, then you don't worry about the floor.

My oil filter wrench was too big so I wrapped one of those green 3M scub or sanding pads arould the filter then put on the filter wrench, worked perfect.

Go slow when adding oils and check level often. I set it up so I had both oil and hydro drained and filled both at the same time. (ie: fill hydro a ways then let it settle while I fill engine oil, then check and fill hydro, etc.)

Fill them up, run it a while, check for leaks, shut it down and let it settle then top everything off.

Have fun, it's a great way to get to know the tractor!

The $36/5 gal bucket is for the regular UDT.
I live in the Willamette Valley in Oregon where it very rarely drops below 40 degrees when I am operating the tractor. My dealer doesn't even carry Super UDT. I have had everyone I have spoken to tell me it is unnecessary in our climate here.

Buster57, I just bought an L3130 yesterday. Didn't think to ask about a manual - what did yours run (the manual that is)?

1. For the hydraulic fluid, you will never put back in what the manual calls for, but you will be within a few gallons.

2. I just use the paper towels for shop use. Have a oil drain pan and when it gets close to full, I pop the drain plug back in. Pour out the oil drain pan into a five gallon bucket and start again. The oil is very clean and wipes off easily.

3. Do one drain plug at a time to control the flow.

4. Do the filters last.

5. I use Super UDT or equivalent in the front axle. Do this after the oil is warm. It takes some time to drain all the oil.

6. Have fun, it's not that bad. Rat...

g42guy:
When you did the 50 hour on your 2200 did you have to bleed the fuel line? If so, where did you crack the line. I am about ready to do my 2200's first service and while I can handle all of the filters and fluid swap out I am not sure about the fuel line bleeding.
Any info appreciated.

Keith, you get an operator's manual with the tractor, but if you do any kind of repair or service work yourself beyond changing fluids and filters, I think you'll find the Workshop Manual and Illustrated Parts List to be a good investment. You really need both of them together and they're expensive (probably in the vicinity of $130 for the two), but worth it in my opinion.
