From an earlier post

1) Warm up the fluids by making the tractor work for about an hour. If you do, drain the UDT first, and be carefull because it may be hot. I didn't and the stuff took a while to drain out because it was so thick.

2) Get a bunch of drain pans and drain a few things at a time. There are usually 2 or more drain plags for each section and it goes twice as fast if you are draining both at the same time.

3) Watch the UDT drainpans - most pans have only a couple of gallons capacity, and there are about 10 gallons of HST to come out!

4) Make sure you have at least 10 gallons worth of empties to store the old oil and UDT in before your dispose of it in and environmentally sound manner.

5) When you want to remove the suction strainer (or whatever its called) for the HST, you can't unless you disconnect the return spring on the sliding lever for the HST peddle. Disconnect the spring, slide the lever back, remove the strainer, clean it, and replace it, remembering to reconnect the spring.

6) Make sure you have a big, strong, oil filter wrench. The HST and Hydraulic filters were on really tight and I actually ruined my filter wrench trying to remove one. It wasn't a very good wrench, though.

7) You will need a variety of funnels to fill it back up again. Make sure the funnels for the UDT have a big spout, otherwise it will take forever to pour the fluid it. I believe you should never use the same funnel for oil and any other fluid like UDT, so I keep them apart. Also, I use an old funnel for old oil/UDT, never a clean one.

Other than those little nuggets, its a pretty easy job. It would have been easier if it wasn't so darned cold out, but at least I was sheltered.

In any event, I figure anybody who can do an oil change can probably to the 50 hour service. It just goes easier if you are well prepared.

Bird, thanks for the info. I knew the tractor would come with an operators manual (well, I guess I did). But if tractors are anything like cars then the owner's manual isn't going to cut it. I've e-mailed my dealer to get the price on a shop/service manual. I'm guessing this is the manual you mentioned. I'd prefer to do any service work myself as the closest dealer is about 50 miles from the property and my prefered dealer is 75 miles.
By the way, $130 is cheap compared to a set of manuals I have at home for the 951 - that complete set is over $300!

The only tips that I would add are:

1) Only warm the tractor up for 5 minutes before servicing. You want the oil warm not hot.
2) Plastic sheet under tractor is necessary no matter how careful you are.
3) Make sure that you have large enough sockets before you start. The HST strainer on a B7500 takes a 26mm.
4) Get a good filter wrench. I use a Sears metal self-adjusting universal filter wrench (about $7.00) that works well. The filter on the right hand side by the HST strainer is a bear!

All in all a very easy job. Good luck.

The manual was $130 and I did have to shop around. Really expensive but so was the Kubota! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I like the plastic on the floor and only get the stuff warm not too hot.

Thank you.

I will take picture to show how good(or bad) I do1

I hold the hydraulic oil in 5 gallon buckets, mine took 3 when you add in the front axle. After putting all the filters on, I put in the hydrailic oil and used those 2.5 gallon containers the new oil came in to hold what was in the 5 gallon buckets. I did mine over a rock driveway so the little bit of oil that leaked was not much of an issue. The HST filter can be a tough filter to break loose. It does take a decent filter wrench. My L48 had 2 big hydraulic filters, a HST filter, sump screen and of course the engine oil filter. I got a full shop manual for it but found I very rarely needed it. Everything was pretty second nature for me, but for folks that have not been around tractors, they are great. Ordered mine from Carvers at a mere $35.00, but I also bought the tractor there. I will have a 50 hour service coming up very shortly on my new L3830 HST. Rat...

I didn't do fuel filters/lines. Talked to my dearler before, he thought I was nuts for doing hydro fluid... he thought I was CRAZY if I did fuel line/filter!

How do I get there?,... I'm ready to move! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
After this last winter here in Western PA, I am totally dreaming of a better life. Even the green gras and flowers of spring have not fooled me this year. Last winter was just plain unforgiveable! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

My manual never shows replacing the fuel filter, only cleaning it in Kerosene. And even at that it's very infrequent. The air filter also gets cleaned not replaced. The inner filter is replaced yearly by the manuals specs. I think yoou will have to make the call when its no longer advantageous to clean it versus replacing, especially the air filter. Rat...
