First Car ?

The "dream vehicle" thread with Bird's old Mercury got me thinking.

Mine was a 1967 AMC Ambassador station wagon. Green with the wood paneling. This was in 1981.

$50 from my sisters boyfriend!

It burned a quart of oil a week but never failed to start or run.

'67 Ford LTD, 429/auto. All power. Had a bad tranny, got it for $350. Had tranny rebuilt, and it ran for ages. 429 ran pretty good after adding a 4bbl and SCJ intake.

It was blue, with a dent in the front left fender. That was about 1980

mine was 51 olds my dad gave me in 59. had to redo the engine, but it ran fine till sold it and moved up in the world in 1960.but was not a cool car for a 17 year old to be running around in. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey it cost me $200 at 15 yrs old okay??
Washed and waxed every week for 6 months before I was old enough to drive it. It also gave me time to learn how to do brakes and oil changes and tune-ups.

I guess I can show my youth here. I had a '74 Honda Civic hatchback. Paid $1500 for it, and blew the motor up the second day I had it. $900 later /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif, it was fixed and I had it for 2 more years. It had the 2 speed semi-automatic transmission (anyone remember those?) and 12" tires.

Don't remember what year it was but I bought an old De Soto that was powered by a Fire-Dome Hemi engine. Drove it for a couple of years until the frame broke.

1947 Plymouth, flathead six with suicide doors in the back. Paid $90 and was working for $0.85 an hour, thought I had the world by the tail.

I learned to drive on my aunt's 1947 Ford Coupe, but my own first car was a 2 door, green, 1946 Chevy (10 years old and about 96k miles on it when I got it for $75). But it had a radio and heater and both worked. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Lets see, that was in 1977 and I was 16 years old. It was a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda w/ a 318 cid in kind of a tourqoise green color.
