Broke down? just because it doesn't charge.. that's not a big deal on a diesel. I know plenty of guys that have NO charging system on their tractor.. they simply tote a charged battery with them if they need to use the old girl that day.

I'd guess he isn't trying hard to find one. I used an early model hitatchi alternator that I found 'on-the-shelf' that had the exact same mounting ears. Alternator was 53$ and i used an old style chrysler VR that I got for about 15$. The shop swapped the pullies for me and away I went.. this was for my yanmar 1700.

As for GPS and auto steer I cant think of a greater invention when you make your living off the land. Our farmers are spraying planting and tilling 40000 acres at a time round the clock. When your spraying chemicals that cost 100 a gallon and your putting down 4 gallons an acre the ability to not overspray while running in pitch black is priceless. I use gps steer on my farm and it saves us big money and I can put anybody in the cab and know they wont drive off a cliff.

Hey Buck,

For someone that is farming 40 thousand acres of land, I can see that GPS, and auto steering would be a very big help. But for the most part, the average tractor owner, doesn't even own more than 500 acres and most will fall in the category below 100 acres.

I would be interested in knowing who is making the components of the GPS system.

I just had to replace the modem in my pc. This is the 3rd modem for this machine. The 2nd one came from Argentina/Mexico. This one came from China, and looks to be made as well or better than the one from Argentina/Mexico.

That is the trend that I have been seeing for the last several years, that more and more goods are coming from China, and Whether you love the Chinese Tractors or hate them, that is the same trend that I see going on in the Tractor Industry as well.

It seems to be like a wave that is getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Pretty soon it will be too big to try and swim against it, and more and more will be getting their Surfboards out, to try and ride the Gigantic Wave.

If fact right now is the best time before the 25.7%tarrif goes into effect.

Do you have anymore information on the 25.7% Tarrif ? That's going to be a Whopper .

Hey Bruce,

I'm probably wrong and for sure I can't forsee into the future, but I don't think that China will peak out for another 10 to 30 years. I bought my first Chinese Tractor back in 1990 and even though this generation of Chinese Tractors are still on the primitive and rough side,, they are much improved over the 1990 Tractors. At the current pace, in another 5 to 10 years, they will be putting out a preferred tractor.

Who knows though, maybe the Aliens will have returned before then, bringing us all gifts of a New Pickup Truck and a New Tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
