First decent road trip for my Cummins.

K&N has a million mile warranty on their filters. If you REALLY "dusted" the turbo on an engine with one PROPERLY installed then file a claim. I'm sure you installed it properly, cleaned and oiled it prior to use and had an air-tight intake system that didn't allow any air in to the turbo after the filter...

Or, just use Fleetguard OEM in your Cummins powered Dodge and know you're fine. That's what the OP was asking about.Turbocharged diesel engines move much more air than a gasser, as I'm sure you know.:confused2:

May I suggest you take a look at the Turbo Diesel Register website which is dedicated to Dodge Cummins.

May I suggest you take a look at the Turbo Diesel Register website which is dedicated to Dodge Cummins.

There are other Dodge Cummins forums out there... and they're free. Call me cheap, but in today's economy, I tend to shy away from all subscriptions. We've even been without cable for 5+ years. The only thing we're keeping up is the internet, and then, only free sites.

Of course, the stock vs. K&N debate is so hotly contested on those forums as to be largely inconclusive. About the only thing they can agree on is that some sort of filter should be used, and quite frankly, stock cannot hurt anything.

An interesting little tidbit I found TDR's FAQ page:

"Q What mileage can I expect from my Turbo Diesel truck?
A Regardless of the year/model of the truck, you can expect:
12 - 18 mpg without a load
9 - 13 mpg with a load"

I get 15 - 17.5 without a load
11 with a load

Looks like I'm ballpark, any way you look at it.

Seems I recall oil bath filters that worked about the same as the K&N. Then it all switched to the replaceable element type.

TDR is the cheapest and best $35/yr you'll ever spend.

People are funny. I post how nicely my truck pulls the camper. I marvel at all the power on tap. I express delight at how much more efficient the diesel is than my old gasser. I eagerly await doing it all again just for the sheer enjoyment it brought me. Yet, there are those who insist I have huge problems with the truck and need to invest lots of money to pursue little gains I might never financially recoup.

Did I miss something? Where was my disappointment and outrage at my seemingly poorly performing vehicle? At what point did it not get me to where I was going? When did it cause me anxiety and frustration in its inability to do as it was designed?

Don't worry, I'm not upset at anyone. Actually, I'm rather amused at people's insistence to solve problems that don't really exist. After all, one man's investment is another man's frivolity. It's all about what you're looking for and what you expect; in some cases, what you really need vs. what you merely want. It's been a fun read and I've really enjoyed it.

That's what I like about this forum.

Why on earth would someone spend money on something that is offered voluntarily for free??? If it's your hobby then no problem, but just for basic info I think there is a greater pool of knowledge for free than on an exclusive site. JMO

You can't be happy until we give you permission

Was it ever established what gear ratio you have?

Please, sir... I want to be happy... Perhaps if I flog myself... :p
I believe it's 3.73. It makes 1600 rpm @ 60 mph, if that's any help to all the mathematicians out there.

Thats about what mine spins and I have 3:73's.But it's still hard to say for sure without jacking it up and spinning the driveshaft and counting the turns on the tire. (unless the tag happens to still be on there).

But there inst much difference in RPM between 3.54, 3.73, and 4.10.

For example, IF you do indeed have 3.73 and are spinning 1600RPM's, 3.54 would only drop you 5%, or down to about 1520 RPM. And 4.10 would only add about 10% to the RPM, or about 1760RPM. And without a digital tach, and the graduations of the current tach, it would be easy to be off on your RPM estimation by that much.

That there, is one of the better posts I have seen since I joined this forum in '98(200 date in my sig is wrong...).
